PV Sindhu secured a place in the women’s title match of the French Open 2026 after defeating Japan’s Hina Akechi in a hard-fought semifinal on Friday for the first time in her life after 21–10, 20–22, 21–16 and set up a battle against the world’s best-rated player in South Korea’s world No. 1, An Se-young.

Sindhu gets a key first place in Paris as she is now on the way to winning her first French Open title. The performance also keeps her strong 2026 season going after she won the Japan Open title earlier this year.

Sindhu Shows Composure in Deciding Game

Sindhu started the semifinal confidently and dominated the rallies, putting Akechi under pressure with her powerful attacking shots. The Indian shuttler won the opening game 21–10 with her smashes and spot placement to make sure she took an early lead.

But Akechi did not shy away from the second game. The Japanese player improved her court coverage and forced Sindhu into longer rallies. Despite the fact that Sindhu tried to finish the match in straight games, Akechi took the second game 22–20 to take the match into a decider.

Sindhu played the final game in a state of fitness, patience, and tactical intelligence with good fitness and the right decision-making skills. She regrouped with disciplined defence, net play, and timely attacking strokes in the final as well. Sindhu won the game 21–16, and she became the finalist.

The comeback victory also underlined her ability to remain focused under pressure and adjust her strategy when an opponent has momentum.

An Se-young Awaits in the Final

Sindhu’s next challenge will be considerably tougher. She will meet An Se-young, the South Korean star who has established herself among the dominant players in women's badminton.

An Se-young’s consistency, defensive performance, and her ability to convert defence into attack make her a powerful opponent. The South Korean has an all-round experience in the match against Sindhu and has a good record in the title match against Sindhu, which is also extremely strong, and Sindhu will be another challenge for her to match.

Sindhu will have the finals as a chance to go up against the world’s best player and make another big mark in her career. She will need to keep it easy and not make any unforced errors while maintaining her attacking intensity and staying patient during long rallies.

A Significant Moment in Sindhu’s 2026 Season

Sindhu’s French Open final performance is the most encouraging moment of her season. Since winning the Japan Open, she has proven she can compete at the highest level of the international game.

Like those who are winning many more titles from Paris, her run in Paris has also been a boost for Indian badminton fans, especially after several other Indian players left the tournament earlier in the competition.

Sindhu’s experience in major finals could prove useful as she prepares for the showdown against An Se-young. But the South Korean’s form and consistency mean that the Indian will need a near-complete performance to challenge for the trophy.

When Is the French Open Final?

The women’s singles final is scheduled for tomorrow, October 25, 2026, in France. Sindhu is going to try and carry her semifinal momentum into a title-winning performance against An Se-young.

With a big trophy at stake, the final will be an exciting one between Sindhu’s aggression and An Se-young’s excellent court coverage.
