With the Indian team management and national selectors on the verge of the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup to start in Africa in October, the time is coming to form a winning team and the Indian team management and national selectors are trying to get the team together. With so much focus on India's opening combination and the high-profile of the team at the senior level of Rohit Sharma (India's top batsman), the focus is also turning to the bowling department. Outside of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, in the absence of depth and penetration in the Indian bowling attack, experts and analysts are concerned that the bowling attack is not yet developed enough in depth to cope with the tough African pitches and need to be better equipped for them.
In the midst of all these mounting concerns, the legendary Indian spin maestro Ravichandran Ashwin has come forward with a very compelling recommendation for BCCI selectors to initiate direct contact with the experienced seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Ashwin, who also feels that experience and mastery over swing bowling in foreign cricket situations would be necessary for Kumar to make his way back in the team, suggested to the selectors to give him a chance to return to the team and work with him. As Ashwin put it, the experienced pacer should be actively involved in the game plan, and the plan should be determined in advance for him to play all domestic first-class tournaments and the Vijay Hazare Trophy and get back to his best physical and tactical game form before the team goes to South Africa (hence he thinks that he will be able to deliver for the team) and that the game will always need his experience.
While the selection committee is now putting together their initial list of probables for next year's marquee fifty-over show, Ashwin has made a full evaluation of Indian names in distinct categories of certainty, hesitation, and exclusion. His analysis is one of ruthless squad building and a number of highly accomplished stars are not in his line-up. As he outlined in his categorical breakdown, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, Abhishek Sharma, and young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi didn't even make it into his top list. A handful of names were thrown into the volatile 'maybe' group and a trusted core group were placed in his final 'yes' category to lead India's global campaign.
