Rohit Sharma has passed his fitness test at BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). The veteran opener who was undergoing rehabilitation and fitness monitoring is now eligible to be called up and will be a part of the team for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan.
Hence the fitness clearance is a big deal as India heads to Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series from June 13 in Dharamsala. Sharma will add experience and stability to the team’s batting lineup which has recently been shuffled with injuries and squad rotation. He will be leading alongside Shubman Gill, our captain who replaced Kohli, in the team.
Rohit's recovery has been a story with fans and selectors in the background. Rich in the ability to anchor innings and accelerate when needed, Sharma can now give India a proven match-winner at the top of the order. The BCCI medical team confirmed that Sharma has met all fitness benchmarks (endurance, agility, and strength tests) and he has been cleared to rejoin the squad.
India will consider this Afghanistan series to be a great preparatory phase for the future of the country by focusing on their long-term planning for the 2027 World Cup. Young talent like Yashasvi Jaiswal stepping in for Virat Kohli is key. Sharma’s return builds morale not only and creates tactical depth but also against Afghanistan’s fast bowling attack which includes Rashid Khan.
Sharma’s presence will make the squad more balanced, the selectors say. He is a mentor of younger players and has more experience in ICC tournaments. And in a situation where India is experimenting with leadership roles and squad combinations, his experience is even more important.
Rohit Sharma’s selection at BCCI CoE is very good news for Team India. The pull shots and calm presence in the crease that fans will have will be expected with him in the team when he arrives for the Afghanistan ODIs.
