T20 World Cup 2026: Pakistan Leapfrogs India to Claim Top Spot in Group A Standings

Against the United States, a 32-run victory at the R. Premadasa Stadium in the race for supremacy in Group A was dramatic as Pakistan secured their second consecutive win of the tournament. It lifted Salman Ali Agha’s side to the top of the table and pushed defending champions India to the second place for a moment.

Pakistan’s Dominant Run

After a hard-fought opening win against the Netherlands, Pakistan appeared far more composed against the USA. Sahibzada Farhan was the star with the bat, and a total bowling effort made sure that the American side never got too close to its target. Pakistan has two victories in two matches and has now comfortably rounded out with 4 points and a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR).

Group A: Current Position (Feb 10, 2026)

While India currently has a very good NRR (+1.450), they have only played one game so far. Pakistan’s extra game has helped them achieve the points advantage required to take the lead.

Rank Team Matches Won Points NRR
1 Pakistan 2 2 4 +0.932
2 India 1 1 2 +1.450
3 Netherlands 2 1 2 +0.356
4 Namibia 1 0 0 -1.033
5 USA 2 0 0 -1.525

The Way Forward: India and Pakistan

The existing standings create an ideal setting for the “Mother of all Battles.”  And on February 15, 2026, India will face Pakistan in Colombo. Despite a lot of political pressure and speculation on PCB possibly boycotting the matter over the Bangladesh expulsion, there is reason for hope that the most important fight will get to a head.

If India can win its next few matches, it may take its place atop the World Cup, before the Super 8s begins. But Pakistan's current momentum now makes them quite powerful in the subcontinental conditions.
