Thane Police have also said a road traffic dispute between a biker and a family travelling with a 14-month-old baby has turned into a violent clash after a woman’s complaints of a biker driving on the wrong lane and approaching them as they were driving into the road and pointing his bike at them have been reported to police to investigate and take action over the alleged traffic violation and threatening behaviour.
The incident took place on October 6 near Teen Hath Naka, opposite Tip Top Plaza in Thane. Sweety Pandey Verma, who was travelling with her family, also posted her account of the encounter on the internet. The family was returning home when they saw a biker allegedly traveling against the direction of traffic.
Verma said her husband intervened after seeing the biker driving on a stretch that was to be used by vehicles turning as a U-turn. She said barricades had been put in place to prevent vehicles from entering the stretch from the opposite direction. What started with a dispute over the traffic violation grew into a full-fledged argument when the biker approached the family’s car.
Biker Allegedly Confronts Family
According to Verma, the biker approached their vehicle, banged on the door and tried to hit her husband during the argument. She said he raised his hand toward her husband, pointed at the family and put his hand inside the car while confronting them.
Verma said the biker asked why his alleged decision to drive on the wrong side of the road should matter. This was getting more and more intimidating and the family was scared for their safety.
The couple’s 14-month-old child was inside the vehicle and the alleged confrontation was especially disturbing, Verma said. The family was travelling with an infant when the dispute took place and aggressive behaviour on public roads can pose a risk to passengers who are not involved in traffic violations, she said.
The woman also raised questions about compliance with traffic rules at the location. On the stretch, she said, wrong-side driving was an issue even though the barricades were meant to keep vehicles from entering against the flow of traffic.
Woman Raises Concern Over Road Safety
Verma also said that the biker was under the influence of alcohol. But this claim has not been independently verified and should not be treated as an established fact without the authorities having confirmed it.
Her account has brought attention to two related road-safety issues: driving against the designated direction of traffic and the escalation of disagreements between road users into potentially threatening confrontations.
Wrong-side driving can put drivers, pedestrians and other people in the way of oncoming vehicles in dangerous situations. When road disputes turn aggressive in such a way, the danger can extend beyond the driver and passenger to include passengers and bystanders as well.
The incident also highlights the importance of addressing traffic violations through appropriate reporting channels rather than allowing road disputes to escalate. Road users who see dangerous driving can report that to the traffic police, and in case of a very high-risk situation, it is urgent to report it to police and seek safety measures and help first.
Family Seeks Police Investigation
After the alleged encounter, Verma appealed to Thane Police and Thane Traffic Police to investigate the matter. She called for appropriate action over the alleged wrong-side driving and the biker's reported behaviour during the dispute.
Her story has circulated online and drawn reactions from social media users. Some commented on the wrong-side driving and bemoaned the family's situation. Other members of the family advised the family to collect all the evidence to be sure, record the car’s registration details if it was possible and file a police report.
But the online account alone does not establish whether a formal complaint has been registered, whether the biker has been identified or whether the police have initiated an investigation. Such details would need confirmation from the authorities.
The incident is a reminder that traffic rules are intended to protect all road users and that confrontations over violations can quickly become dangerous. It may be necessary to examine the circumstances of the alleged incident, including the road layout, the reported barricades and the woman’s assertions before taking any action.
The family is now looking at the investigation and there is a need for safer driving and responsible behaviour on Thane’s busy roads. Any official findings will assist in establishing the sequence of events and determining whether traffic or other rules were broken.
