The route has been damaged again from the continuous rain, and authorities are finding it difficult for them to keep traffic flowing again. A particularly bad spot is near Pani Wala Bend, where the road has already been cracked and deteriorated so badly that it is now unsafe to get vehicles onto the road and traffic is now unsafe to travel normally.
The highway condition in Uttarakhand is worrying for people who intend to travel to the popular hill station at the time of the current rains, as more rain is on the way.
Dehradun-Mussoorie Road suffers fresh damage
The latest disruption has been reported around kilometre 21 of the Mussoorie-Dehradun road near Pani Wala Bend.
Fresh cracks had already begun to form in the road after heavy rain and slope movement. The damage had reduced the road's usable width to about eight feet, leaving only a narrow area for vehicles to use.
So far the situation has worsened as more rain overnight. Vehicles have been stopped from making their way through the affected stretch, as authorities assess the damage, the report said.
The development is particularly important for tourists because the Dehradun-Mussoorie road is one of the main routes connecting the two destinations.
