Delhi now has a new attraction for dinosaur lovers and families looking for something different from the city’s usual tourist spots. The National Science Centre in New Delhi has opened a newly developed Prehistoric Life Gallery, offering visitors an immersive journey through millions of years of life on Earth.
The gallery was inaugurated on August 26, 2026, and reimagines prehistoric life of dinosaurs and other extinct creatures with life-sized and scaled models. The National Science Centre, part of the National Council of Science Museums under the Ministry of Culture, set out to merge science with a sense of the prehistoric world.
While not an actual Jurassic Park, the combination of animated dinosaur models, atmospheric settings, lighting and sound effects gives visitors a Jurassic Park-like experience.
35 Prehistoric Species On Display
The new Prehistoric Life Gallery features 35 carefully selected species from different geological times. It goes far beyond dinosaurs and traces the life of Earth’s population in different geological periods.
Visitors can see trilobites and giant scorpions, early birds, gigantic dinosaurs, and Neanderthal man, according to the National Science Centre. Some exhibits are electro-pneumatically animated, which gives the models movement and makes them feel more realistic.
The gallery is also designed around the broader story of how life developed on Earth. Informational panels explain the formation of the planet, changes in landforms, the evolution of the atmosphere, and the emergence of life in water before it eventually spread onto land.
The exhibition also delves into some of the major geological changes and what caused early mass extinctions to take place, and provides a scientific context to the visual experience.
From Trilobites to Dinosaurs And Early Humans
But not only dinosaurs are the focus of the gallery.
Its displays cover different geological eras and include marine life, early land animals, dinosaurs, and birds. For this redevelopment, there were themed dioramas including the Permian sea, the transition from water to land, the Triassic period, the Lower and Upper Jurassic periods, bird evolution and the Cretaceous period.
The National Science Centre believes the gallery should be used to make a visitor think about some of the most important questions about life in general, such as how life started, how it evolved, and how humans emerged.
So this attraction is more relevant to children and students, and the animated models and immersive presentation are also intended to make the exhibition interesting to general visitors.
Entry Fee, Timings And Location
The National Science Centre is located at Gate No. 4 of Bharat Mandapam on Bhairon Road in New Delhi. The centre is open from 9:30 am to 6 pm, with ticket sales at the counter ending at 5:15 pm.
The current general entry ticket is Rs 100 per person. Children below 3.4 feet get free entry, while there are different charges for attractions such as the 3D shows and Immersive Dome.
The centre is open throughout the week except on Holi and Diwali, according to its official visitor information.
The National Science Centre is also home to a number of other science-related attractions like 3D shows and an Immersive Dome with 360-degree digital experiences.
The new Prehistoric Life Gallery, for Delhi residents and tourists, is an entirely different type of outing and combines dinosaurs, interactive presentations, and science education under one roof.
