TDP Faction Clash in Kadapa: Leader Fires 5 Rounds Amid Arson and Violence

High tension and chaos at Nandalur in the Rajampet constituency of Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district after the clash between two rival TDP factions turned violent with highway gunfire and arson. The unrest that took place right on the highway also led to massive stone throwing, vehicle destruction, and open gunfire. The incident has caused great public safety and political instability for the local body election nomination process.

The bitter fight between the two groups stems from the intense internal struggle for nominations in local body elections. One is the TDP official Balasubramanyam (an Elite Hospital owner) and the other is Edula Vijayasagar.

The main reason behind the brawl was a bitter dispute over which group should be allowed to officially file nomination papers for the contested territorial constituency seat and which one not to do so. They were unwilling to take either side down or compromise, so there were arguments that went from small to heavy and it was all about violence.

Highway Violence and Arson

As the conflict developed, supporters from both sides took to the highway and made the public side of the road a battlefield. Mob members started throwing stones at each other, causing panic among local residents and passing commuters.

The clash quickly degraded and unruly goons began attacking vehicles parked near the nomination area. In the course of the action, a car was completely destroyed and the angry crowd burned another car to bits. Besides the four-wheelers, the culprits also damaged two two-wheelers belonging to the rival group members.

The targeted violence led to the serious injuries of several people, political workers on both sides and a Special Branch police constable identified as Manoj.

Gunfire Causes Panic

The TDP official, Balasubramanyam, brandished a gun in the middle of the chaos on the highway. To intimidate the opposing faction or push back the crowd, he fired five rounds into the air. The loud bangs of several gunshots resonating across the highway brought absolute panic and people fled for safety.

Police Intervention

After media reports of the growing violence, heavy police forces rushed to the highway site in Nandalur. Finding the situation very volatile, police officers deployed a heavy lathi charge on the rioting mob and pushed the two groups away from the highway and nomination centre. More security forces were deployed to secure the area and keep watch. The unauthorized use of firearms in public, the high property damage, and election security violations in the local governance filing process have been reported by the authorities.
