2027 Hyundai Tucson Breaks Cover With Fresh Design And Hybrid Technology

Hyundai has officially unveiled its new Hyundai Tucson in 2027, which has a lot to offer with it for one of the world's most popular SUVs. The new design language of Hyundai’s Art of Steel is now the new one, its hybrid powertrain is upgraded, connected-car technology is improved and a more rugged XRT Pro is added.

Hyundai’s new Pleos Connect infotainment platform and Gleo AI assistant is now available for this new SUV, and it is also one of Hyundai’s new models.

However, for Indian buyers, the new Tucson is mainly a global product update. Hyundai discontinued the current-generation Tucson in India in November 2025, but said the new model will be released for Korean customers this year, followed by North America, Europe and other global markets in 2027. Hyundai has not yet announced an India launch date for the new Tucson.

2027 Hyundai Tucson gets bigger dimensions

The new Hyundai Tucson has grown in size, especially in its long-wheelbase configuration. The SUV now measures 4,700mm in length, 1,905mm in width and 1,685mm in height. Compared to the outgoing model, the new Tucson is 60mm longer, 40mm wider and 20mm taller.

The wheelbase has also increased by 30mm to 2,785mm. The additional dimensions will allow for more room in the cabin as well as provide a better road presence for the SUV.

Hyundai has also widened the door opening angle from 73 degrees to 83 degrees. That should make getting in and out of the SUV easier, especially for passengers sitting in the rear. The luggage compartment has up to 1,067 litres of cargo capacity, further improving the Tucson's practicality.

New Art Of Steel Design

The 2027 Tucson adopts Hyundai’s new Art of Steel design philosophy, which gives the SUV a more sculpted look. At the front, Hyundai’s new H-Edge lighting signature is used to differentiate indirect and edge-lit elements to create a distinct look.

The rear features newly designed Prism Rear Lamps, which further sharpen the SUV. The new style gives Tucson a more modern, contemporary look but retains the same basic proportions as a midsize SUV.

Hyundai also introduced the XRT Pro variant specifically for owners looking for off-road capability. Unlike the cosmetic-driven adventure trims available in the XRT Pro, though, it has hardware upgrades like all-wheel drive, all-terrain tyres, front recovery hooks and increased ground clearance.

The XRT Pro has 210mm ground clearance, which is 30mm higher than the standard Tucson. The changes in the XRT Pro are made to make this variant more suitable for rough terrain and outdoor driving.

Next-Generation Hybrid Powertrain

One of the most important aspects of the new Tucson is its next-generation hybrid technology. Hyundai is targeting fuel economy of up to 42 mpg in the US-specification two-wheel-drive hybrid version. The hybrid SUV can go from 0 to 100kmph in around 8.5 seconds, according to the company's figures.

Hyundai is taking hybrid technology from a performance point of view by making it work in daily driving and quicker-than-usual acceleration.

The plug-in hybrid version will also be released in some markets. The PHEV will produce up to 288hp and 38.7kgf·m of torque and has an estimated electric-only driving range of around 81km. It also has a 7.2kW onboard charger.

Consequently, the availability of these powertrains will depend on individual markets, meaning the specifications offered in Korea, North America, Europe and other regions may differ.

17-Inch Or 12.9-Inch Display And Gleo AI

The technology package in the new Tucson is another major highlight. Hyundai has introduced its Pleos Connect infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS.

Depending on the version, the SUV can be equipped with a 17-inch or 12.9-inch central touchscreen and a 9.9-inch driver display. The system can run native third-party applications and over-the-air software updates.

A key feature is Hyundai's Gleo AI in-car assistant. Instead of requiring drivers to go through many menus, Hyundai's AI in-car assistant is programmed to respond to natural language requests. For instance, a driver could ask the system to find a hiking trail with nearby parking and the assistant will handle the request through voice interaction.

Will Hyundai Tucson ever come to India?

At present, Hyundai still doesn't have an India launch date for the new Tucson. The SUV will arrive in Korea first and North America, Europe and other global markets will see it in 2027.

The previous Tucson was discontinued in India in November 2025. The model was challenged not only by other midsize SUVs but also Hyundai's own Creta, which has many features and technologies at a much cheaper price point.

So the new Tucson’s India performance is uncertain. If Hyundai will eventually bring the 2027 Tucson to India in the future, the SUV’s bigger size, hybrid technology, advanced infotainment system and XRT Pro variant will give it a much different positioning from the outgoing one.

For now, the global unveiling provides Hyundai's vision for its next-generation midsize SUV. With its new design language, hybrid technology, AI-powered cabin features and more capable XRT Pro model, Hyundai's global SUV portfolio is set up to grow with the 2027 Tucson.
