According to the Hindu American Foundation (HAF), the attack took place around 1:30 PM local time. Bricks were thrown at the temple, causing heavy damage, the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) said.

Priests And Devotees Were Inside

CoHNA said the incident occurred while priests and devotees were inside the temple. Windows were shattered after bricks were thrown at the building.

The organisations did not provide details on any injuries or the number of windows damaged. As of the latest reports, no suspect has been publicly identified and no arrests were announced, the organisations said.

Surveillance Footage Being Reviewed

The Hindu American Foundation said surveillance footage of the incident was available and being reviewed by authorities. HAF also said it was in contact with temple leaders and was providing assistance.

The FBI and civil rights officials were notified of the incident, the organisation said. It said law enforcement agencies were working to find and capture those behind it.

HAF Calls It A Possible Hate Crime

HAF described the incident as a possible hate crime, but authorities had not publicly established a religious motive at the time of the reports.

The organisation called on elected officials and government agencies to condemn what it described as hateful rhetoric directed at Indian and Hindu American communities. CoHNA also called on Richmond Heights Mayor Kim Thomas and local authorities to condemn the incident and take swift action.

In order to publish, it is important to distinguish between the advocacy groups' characterization and an officially established motive. The documents do not indicate that the attack was solely motivated by religious hatred.

The incident occurred ahead of Navratri.

The incident occurred as Hindu communities in Ohio started observing Hindu Heritage Month in October, with Navratri celebrations also approaching.

The timing has drawn attention from Hindu advocacy organizations that have expressed concerns about vandalism and hostility targeting Hindu religious sites in the U.S. CoHNA has previously documented incidents involving Hindu temples and religious sites in different parts of the country.

Investigation Underway

The attack has prompted calls for authorities to examine the surveillance footage, identify the people responsible and determine the motive behind the incident.

Of course, the facts for now are that the Richmond Heights temple was targeted with bricks on October 2, 2026, windows were shattered, and priests and devotees were inside at the time. The identity of the culprit or culprits, the prospect of arrests and motive are not clear yet in the latest reports.
