Hyundai Creta Hits 15 Lakh Domestic Sales Milestone in India: Sales Figures, Engine Options and Prices Explained

The Hyundai Creta has also made a big sales milestone in the Indian passenger vehicle market, with 15 lakh cumulative domestic wholesale units since its launch in July 2015. This is one of Hyundai Motor India's best selling and very popular models in the market. Besides domestic demand, the Creta has also been exported to international markets and has sold 2.96 lakh units through August 2026.

The milestone shows that the Creta is still in an important place in India's competitive SUV market. Hyundai’s sales figures indicate that the SUV accounts for about 15% of Hyundai’s total domestic passenger vehicle sales and about 55% of its total utility vehicle sales since it has come into the business.

Since being launched in 2016, the Creta has evolved through various updates, engine options and equipment upgrades. Hyundai has kept the Creta a main offering in its lineup and has been able to offer different models. With a wide variety of powertrain choices, transmission options and a diverse range of variants, the company is able to serve various customer needs.

Hyundai Creta Sales Performance: From 63,836 Units to a Record Annual Figure

The Creta's domestic sales have grown considerably since its first full year in the Indian market. In FY2016, the SUV had domestic wholesale sales of 63,836 units. By FY2018 its annual sales had passed one lakh, reaching around 1.08 lakh units.

The model has continued to grow in the following years and FY2026 saw its highest domestic wholesale performance. Hyundai shipped 2.02 lakh units of the Creta in the year, up about 4% from FY2025.

But the new figures also show a softer trend in the first half of this financial year. Creta and Creta Electric combined sales were 89,727 units from April to September 2026, which is down around 10% year-on-year in the first half of FY2027.

The figures indicate that the Creta has achieved a significant long-term sales milestone but the recent performance is moderating. The results for the conventional Creta and electric version are different from the cumulative domestic wholesale sales for the model since its launch.

Hyundai Creta Export Performance and International Demand

The Hyundai Creta has also been an export business for the company apart from the strong domestic presence. The total overseas shipments have reached 2.96 lakh units through August 2026 and show the value of the model beyond India.

Exports peaked at 50,820 units in FY2018. In FY2026, shipments are up to 6,496 units from 4,314 units in FY2025. That is an increase in annual exports but still far below the peak in FY2018.

The export performance also adds to the Creta’s overall contribution to Hyundai. Its long-standing presence in India and exports to other countries, including international markets, has made it part of the manufacturer’s utility vehicle portfolio.

Hyundai Creta Engine Options and Transmission Choices

The Hyundai Creta has three 1.5-litre engine choices in the petrol and diesel range. The choice of petrol, turbo-petrol or diesel engines (naturally aspirated petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel) will suit the buyer based on performance and driving requirements.

The naturally aspirated 1.5 L petrol engine produces 113.4hp and 143.8Nm of torque and is aimed at customers who want a conventional petrol SUV for daily use. The more powerful 1.5 L turbo-petrol engine generates 158hp and 253Nm of torque, which is the performance-oriented option in the lineup.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine generates 114.4hp and 250Nm of torque. It is an alternative for buyers who would prefer a diesel-powered SUV for their driving.

The transmission options vary depending on the engine and variant. A six-speed manual gearbox, an IVT, a six-speed torque converter automatic and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) are the different transmission options.

The Creta range also has an all-electric version, called the Creta Electric, which takes the nameplate to India's growing electric passenger vehicle market.

Hyundai Creta Price in India: Petrol and Diesel Variants

The Hyundai Creta petrol range starts at Rs 10.91 lakh for the entry-level E model, with the top-end 1.5-litre turbo-petrol DCT King DT configuration at Rs 20.06 lakh. These are ex-showroom prices for Delhi, according to the supplied details.

Customers who opt for the naturally aspirated petrol engine can choose between manual and IVT automatic transmission. The price for the naturally aspirated petrol range extends up to Rs 18.84 lakh for the King DT version with IVT gearbox.

The diesel model starts at Rs 12.53 lakh for the entry-level E. At the top end, the King Knight Edition with automatic transmission is priced at Rs 20.11 lakh.

Prices will vary depending on the powertrain, transmission, trim level, and special edition chosen. Knight Edition models and dual-tone versions may have higher prices than the regular versions. Customers should check with Hyundai dealerships for new variant-wise prices, availability and any offers for specific variants.

What the 15 Lakh Sales Milestone Means for Hyundai

Achieving 15 lakh domestic wholesale units is an amazing feat for Hyundai Creta after over 10 years in the Indian market. The SUV's significant cumulative contribution, record annual sales in FY2026 and substantial export volumes point to the importance of the SUV to Hyundai's business as a whole.

At the same time, the 10% decline in combined Creta and Creta Electric sales during April-September 2026 indicates that maintaining momentum will remain important in the coming months. Competition in India’s SUV segment continues to make product updates, powertrain variety and pricing key considerations for manufacturers.

With petrol, diesel and electric options available under the Creta nameplate, Hyundai has a broad lineup to meet changing customer preferences. How well Hyundai can continue to grow in India and develop its global sales model will be key.
