Royal Enfield Sales Rise 11% in August to 1.26 Lakh Units; Exports Up 10%

Royal Enfield maintained its strong sales momentum, with August 2026 seeing an 11% year-on-year increase in motorcycle sales. In August, the iconic motorcycle brand sold 1,26,479 motorcycles, compared with 1,14,002 in August 2025.

In the latest numbers, posted through an exchange filing by parent company Eicher Motors, Royal Enfield continues to benefit from strong demand in the Indian market, while exports also returned to growth during the month. This comes just before the crucial festive season, when motorcycle demand typically gets an additional boost.

The domestic market was still the biggest driver of Royal Enfield's performance in August. It sold 1,14,204 motorcycles in India in August, up by 11% from 1,02,876 motorcycles sold in the same month last year. There is consistently high double-digit growth in the mid-size motorcycle portfolio of Royal Enfield that shows that it is still very good for Indian customers. The company has been expanding its reach to various price points with Classic, Bullet, Hunter, Meteor, Himalayan and other motorcycle ranges.

Royal Enfield saw an improvement in its overseas business in August as exports rose 10%, to 12,275 units (vs. 11,126 motorcycles shipped overseas in August 2025). The export growth is particularly significant as Royal Enfield's international sales had been struggling year-on-year, and the monthly improvement indicates that demand in some overseas markets is starting to pick up.

However, the company's performance was not uniform across the engine categories. Motorcycles with up to 350cc engine capacity and electric vehicles were selling 1,13,143 units (15 percent increase from 98,631 units in August 2025). This segment continues to be the main volume driver of the company and accounts for the vast majority of its monthly sales.

In contrast, motorcycles with engine capacities over 350cc sold 13,336 units in August, down 13 percent from 15,371 units in the same month last year. The outcome of these numbers is that Royal Enfield’s core mid-size portfolio is in demand but the sales momentum in the larger engine segment has moderated. The larger engine motorcycles include the Himalayan 450, Guerrilla 450, Super Meteor 650, Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.

The latest monthly performance also reinforces Royal Enfield’s strong start to the financial year. Between April and August 2026, the company sold 5,75,138 motorcycles which was up 23 percent from 4,67,575 in the previous financial year. In the same period domestic sales were also up 28 percent to 5,20,695 units. But exports fell 9 percent to 54,443 units from 59,666 in the same period a year ago.

Investors have to find a way out of this domestic and international disconnect. India's market has a good growth outlook but Royal Enfield must continue to grow international volume to have a balanced growth profile. The company has launched motorcycles and built its brand presence in the international markets of Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Royal Enfield also continued to expand its product portfolio in August. The Classic 350 Gorkha Edition in India and Nepal and matching Gorkha clothing were released. It also updated the Continental GT 650 with design and feature improvements. These are part of a long-term strategy of keeping the classic models fresh and adding new editions and upgrades to it to keep customers.

Royal Enfield's electric motorcycle strategy is another major focus. The Flying Flea electric mobility programme went on without stopping in the course of the month and the Flying Flea C6 drove 50,000 customer-driven kilometres in Bengaluru. The development is an important step in Royal Enfield's journey to the premium electric two-wheeler market which is growing so rapidly.

India’s robust August sales numbers are a good sign for the country’s car business and manufacturers are going to be able to make the most of the increased consumer demand. Royal Enfield has said that August is a solid base to start the festive period with.

The company’s performance also follows a strong July, in which Royal Enfield sold 1,18,232 motorcycles, a 34% year-on-year growth. Domestic sales had climbed 38% in that month, exports had increased around 10%. The August numbers thus illustrate that the growth momentum of the firm is still there, but the year-on-year growth rate has moderated from July’s unusually strong record.

Overall, Royal Enfield’s August performance is a positive picture. Sales rose 11% to 1,26,479 units, domestic sales jumped 11% to 1,14,204 units and exports rose 10% to 12,275 units. At the same time, the decline in motorcycles above 350cc remains an area investors and industry observers will be closely watching.

The next few months will be key to Royal Enfield given the festive season is coming up. Strong demand for its 350cc models, international expansion, new product launches and advances in electric mobility will determine if the company is still able to maintain its growth momentum. For now, on the basis of August results, Royal Enfield is firmly on a growth trajectory which is mainly driven by domestic demand.
