Toyota Clocks 32,842 August Sales With Hycross, Hyryder and Fortuner Leading the Way

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 32,842 units in August 2026, driven by the continued demand for the company's popular vehicles (both in India and abroad). The monthly sales were 28,410 units sold in the domestic market and 4,432 units exported. Although Toyota did not give a year-on-year comparison for August sales, the sales growth in the first eight months of 2026 is clearly evidence of steady sales growth.

The company's sales in January-August 2026 were 2.66 lakh units, an increase of around 10 per cent from the same year-ago period in 2025. Domestic sales grew at a rate of about 11 per cent, while exports grew at a rate of only 2 per cent.

Toyota’s August sales performance underlines the importance of its expanding SUV and MPV portfolio in India. While the company has not released a model-wise sales breakdown for the month, these vehicles (like Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Fortuner) continue to play a key role in Toyota’s overall market presence.

Domestic Sales account for the majority.

Of the 32,842 units reported by Toyota in August 2026, domestic sales accounted for 28,410 units. Exports accounted for 4,432 units. That is, the Indian market still accounts for the majority of Toyota's monthly sales.

Toyota has not given the specific overseas markets that received the exported vehicles. The company has also not given a direct comparison between August 2026 and August 2025. But the year-to-date figures do give a hint of the brand momentum.

In the first eight months of 2026, Toyota's domestic sales were 2.44 lakh units compared with almost 2.20 lakh units in 2025. This is a growth of around 11 per cent.

On the other hand, exports were 22,104 units in January-August and 21,741 units in the same period the previous year. The increase of about 2 per cent suggests that domestic demand has been the main driver behind Toyota's overall growth in 2026.

Hycross, Hyryder and Fortuner are the key models.

Toyota has not officially identified which individual models contributed the most to its August sales. But the Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Fortuner are still among the company's most important products in India.

The Innova Hycross is still helping Toyota to strengthen its position as a premium MPV player. With space, modern features and hybrid technology, it appeals to family buyers and long-distance users.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder, meanwhile, has helped Toyota establish a stronger presence in the highly competitive midsize SUV market. The SUV is available with multiple powertrain options, including hybrid technology, making it an important model for buyers looking for improved fuel efficiency and everyday practicality.

At the premium end of the market, the Toyota Fortuner is still one of the company’s most popular SUVs. It is still one of the top three premium SUV brands and is constantly recognized for its road presence, durability and off-road capability.

Toyota also has several other models contributing to its India sales portfolio. The company makes vehicles such as the Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender at its first Bidadi plant. Its second plant manufactures models such as the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Hilux.

Other important vehicles in Toyota's India lineup are the Glanza, Rumion and Urban Cruiser Taisor, giving the company a presence across multiple segments.

Festive season could boost demand.

As Toyota enters the festive season in India, one of the strongest periods of automobile sales, it will be crucial for the company in the coming months. SUV and MPV sales normally increase during this time period and Toyota will hope that good consumer sentiment leads to more bookings and deliveries.

Toyota has significant production capacity in its two Bidadi plants with total installed capacity of up to 3.42 lakh units per year. This manufacturing capability can help the company to respond to increased demand if festive season sales rise.

Toyota enters the festive period with solid sales that have been growing by double digits in the domestic market, and it will be closely watched for Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Fortuner and other popular models in the coming months.

While Toyota's August model-wise sales numbers have not been released, the total of 32,842 units highlights the company’s performance in India’s growing SUV and MPV market. As the festive season comes up in the near future, we will see if Toyota can maintain the growth momentum in the rest of 2026.
