The surprise operation was conducted by a team of food safety officials led by AC Rajesh. The inspections were on food quality, hygiene, and handling and storage of food items served to customers.

The officials were reportedly outraged at the discovery of rotten meat at some restaurants and raised concern about health risks to consumers.

Five Hotels and Food Establishments Inspected in Ballari

The food safety team inspected several popular food outlets in Ballari. The inspection report mentions Vaishali Hotel, Davanagere Benne Dose, Sriranga non-vegetarian hotel, and Polo Hotel. Shetty shop was also reportedly checked.

During the checks, officials found that there was no cleanliness at the establishments and that food items. This raised questions about whether proper food safety and hygiene practices were being followed.

They reportedly expressed displeasure over the conditions and told the establishments to take food safety requirements seriously.

Rotten Meat Found at Polo and Sriranga Hotels

One of the major findings during the inspections was that rotten meat was allegedly being sold at Polo Hotel. Officials reportedly found spoiled meat and took samples of more than 10 food items for further examination.

At Sriranga Hotel (which serves non-vegetarian food), officials also reportedly found spoiled meat being used. This led to strong criticism from the inspection team, which questioned the management of the hotel on handling and storage of food.

The samples will help authorities determine the quality and safety of the food items. Laboratory examination (if available) will be important to establish whether the products violated food safety standards.

Expired Food Products Found at Shetty Shop

The inspection team also reportedly found expired food products at a Shetty shop. Selling or using food items beyond expiry dates can be harmful to consumers, so proper stock monitoring and storage are necessary for food businesses.

Officials said cleanliness is important and food products must be safe to eat.

Rs 1.25 Lakh Fine Imposed on Five Establishments

The inspections led to a fine of Rs 25,000 each on the five establishments, so the total fine was Rs 1.25 lakh.

The action is part of efforts to improve food safety monitoring and prevent unsafe food from being sold in the city.

The early morning checks also serve as a warning to hotel owners, restaurants and food vendors that hygiene has to be maintained; expiry dates checked regularly and meat and other perishable ingredients stored under appropriate conditions.

Food Safety Checks Aim to Protect Consumers

The Ballari inspections make clear that hotels and eateries (especially those catering for large numbers of customers) need to be regularly monitored.

Consumers expect food businesses to provide basic hygiene and serve fresh, safe products. Spoiled meat, out-of-date ingredients, and dirty kitchens can all increase the risk of foodborne illness.

Food safety authorities should continue inspections to ensure that establishments are complying with the standards. Customers should also report serious hygiene concerns to the relevant authorities.

The action in Ballari highlights the need for hotel owners to put food quality and cleanliness first rather than compromising public health.
