Karnataka's final electoral rolls have been published by the Election Commission on October 27, 2026 after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The electoral roll has been updated with almost 99.32 lakh names, and out of this number, the last voter list has been amended to date. This marks the completion of months of verification and updating of the state's voter list in which the Election Commission conducted elections.
The revision has drawn much attention because of the size of the deletions and fears that eligible voters could be removed from the electoral roll. The final list must be made up of names and updated details so that registration status is correct, they say.
The SIR exercise was done by checking the existing voter records, noting discrepancies and processing applications for inclusion, deletion and correction of entries. The Election Commission had set the final list for publication on October 27 after hearing about notices issued during the verification process.
Karnataka SIR: Why were voter names removed?
The Special Intensive Revision was conducted to update electoral rolls and identify entries that needed verification. The categories considered in the process were voters who died, moved their residence, appeared more than once on the rolls, or could not be mapped to the relevant records.
More than 1 crore names were excluded earlier in the draft roll stage. That included absent voters, permanently shifted residents, deceased electors, duplicate entries and other matters that need further investigation. These figures should not be confused with the final deletions that are published after claims, objections and verification. <Cite refs={["turn688995search1","turn688995search3"]}/>
The distinction is important because a voter who has moved to another address or could not be contacted during enumeration is not necessarily ineligible to vote. Such cases may need further verification or an application to restore or update the electoral entry.
The final roll is to reflect the result of the revision and then processing of the applications. Voters who do believe their names have been mistakenly excluded should contact the relevant electoral registration authorities.
Election officials completed hearings on more than 43 lakh notices
Prior to publishing the final list, the Chief Electoral Officer's office in Karnataka said hearings had been completed for 43,82,824 notices issued to electors in the no-mapping and anomalies categories.
The authorities also received 25,87,461 applications between June 16 and October 22. That covers new registrations, overseas elector registrations, objections and corrections to existing entries.
The applications included:
- Form 6: 10,42,863 applications for inclusion of names.
- Form 6A: 4,840 applications relating to overseas electors.
- Form 7: 2,28,917 applications concerning objections to inclusion or requests for deletion.
- Form 8: 13,10,841 applications for corrections and other changes.
These figures are applications received, not the final number of voters added or removed. Each application should be taken into account in all electoral procedures taken into account.
The revision process has also been subject to political scrutiny, such as bulk objections that seek to remove names. Election authorities have said objections must be verified and that filing a Form 7 application does not automatically lead to the voter's name being deleted.
How do you check your name in the final voter list of Karnataka?
The information voters need to verify their voter registration can be verified online through the official voter services portal of the Election Commission.
- Visit the official website: https://voters.eci.gov.in/
- Select the option to search the electoral roll.
- Search using your EPIC voter ID number or the available personal details.
- Check your name, constituency, and other registration details.
- You can also access the electoral roll PDF for your polling part and verify your entry in the published list.
The Times of India has also reported that voters can download the updated electoral roll PDF and check their revised part and serial numbers.
If your name is missing or any details are incorrect, you can contact your Booth Level Officer (BLO) or Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) to be informed about the process. Eligible voters can apply for the application online or by election office.
What should voters do if their names are missing?
Voters who can't find their names should first confirm that they are checking the correct constituency and polling part. Then they should approach the appropriate election official to establish whether the entry was deleted, transferred, or needs correction.
Eligible citizens seeking inclusion can apply for inclusion using Form 6, while Form 8 is generally used for corrections and some changes to an existing electoral entry. The form and procedure of the application may be tailored to the individual.
The publication of the final list does not mean that voters should stop checking their registration details. Electoral enrolment and corrections are subject to the procedures prescribed by the Election Commission.
Why does the final voter list matter?
The Karnataka final electoral roll is a key record in voter registration prior to future elections. The scale of the SIR exercise means citizens need to verify their status rather than merely assume that their earlier registration is the same.
A name removed from the electoral roll should not by itself be interpreted as proof that a person was unable to vote. The reasons for the exclusion are different and sometimes we need to verify the case individually.
With the final list now announced, voters should check their details, report discrepancies to election officials and complete any necessary registration formalities well before an election. The official electoral roll and the relevant registration authorities are the appropriate sources to confirm an individual’s voting status.
