Shivakumar (a 50-year-old BJP leader from Malur and an aspiring ticket candidate from Balakaluru) died in a tragic road accident near Devanahalli in Bengaluru Rural district. The accident took place when he was travelling from Chitradurga to Malur in a Range Rover.
A gas tanker in front of his car was also involved in the accident on the Hoskote-Dabaspet ring road highway; it was not a car, and the front of the luxury SUV was totally mangled. Shivakumar received severe injuries and died at the accident site, and the other three people in the car were seriously injured.
The accident is believed to have happened when the Range Rover was overtaking another car on the road, the police said. “The car was approaching the gas tanker moving towards it at high speed at the time. When the police investigate, things will be clear,” the police said.

Shivakumar was the driver of the car, and three others were injured and died at the scene.
