Team owner Priya Sudeep caught everyone’s attention during the prize distribution ceremony by showing how language, culture, and regional identity are important. She handed over a shawl with the traditional yellow and red colours of the Kannada flag and requested them to put it on the winners as a mark of respect and pride.

This gesture gave the championship celebrations a cultural dimension — Bengaluru’s sporting success was linked to Karnataka Rajyotsava.

Priya Sudeep's Kannada Pride Moment at the Award Ceremony

The closing ceremony of the Indian Racing League was held with Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissioner as the chief guest. The official handed over the championship trophy to the winning team.

Before the final trophy was given, Priya Sudeep was on stage during the prize distribution for runners up. During the ceremony, she handed over the yellow-and-red shawl to the Police Commissioner and asked him to honour the winners by placing it over their shoulders.

She also talked about Karnataka Rajyotsava and why it is important to celebrate Kannada language, culture and identity wherever Kannadigas live.

Her message was that people can still be connected to their roots even when they are away from their home state. It got attention because it put the colours and spirit of Karnataka into an international motorsport event.

Ruhaan Alva Wears Kannada Colours on the Victory Stage

One of the highlights from the ceremony was Ruhaan Alva (winner of the Indian Racing League) standing on the award podium with the yellow-and-red shawl draped over his shoulders.

The image was about sport and culture. Kannada-speaking audiences would have been particularly moved to see the state’s traditional colours being displayed during a championship celebration outside Karnataka.

Priya Sudeep’s gesture ensured that the team’s victory was celebrated as not only a motorsport success but also an opportunity to represent Karnataka’s cultural identity.

Yellow and red colours are associated with Kannada identity and Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations. They are used during cultural programmes, public gatherings and celebrations organised by Kannadigas in India and abroad (see also below).

Karnataka Rajyotsava Celebrated Beyond State Borders

Karnataka Rajyotsava is celebrated every year on 1 November to commemorate the formation of Karnataka state in 1956 after the unification of Kannada-speaking regions.

The day is dedicated to the Kannada language, literature, traditions and cultural heritage. Kannadigas living in different parts of India as well as abroad celebrate the day through flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programmes and community gatherings.

Priya Sudeep’s gesture at the Indian Racing League award ceremony exemplified this spirit of celebrating Kannada identity beyond geography.

Her decision to give the winners a yellow-and-red shawl made a sporting ceremony into a Karnataka Rajyotsava moment. Ruhaan Alva’s appearance on the victory podium in Kannada colours underlined the message that cultural pride can be taken into every field (sports included).

For Kichcha’s Kings Bengaluru, it was a sporting achievement. For Kannada audiences, the celebrations were an extra reason to be proud because the team became associated with the language and culture of Karnataka.
