TVK general secretary Aadhav Arjuna has categorically ruled out any political alliance with the BJP, saying the party will never join hands with the national party. In Egmore, Chennai, on Friday, he also spoke at a public meeting organized by the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) for Tamil students.
The assertion comes as political parties are still at war over TVK's political stand and relations with other parties in Tamil Nadu and even political talks about the election. By repeating that TVK would not join the BJP, Aadhav Arjuna tried to cement the party's commitment to secularism and social justice.
Aadhav Arjuna Says Vijay is Firm on BJP Alliance
Aadhav Arjuna spoke at the IUML Youth Wing's Quaid-e-Milleth Rising Public Meeting and said TVK Chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay was firm against any alliance with the BJP.
The comments also underline TVK’s position that its political identity should be built on its own principles and not on an alliance with the BJP. It is also against the background of the party’s political rivals’ questions about the party’s approach to Union government issues.
Aadhav Arjuna's comments are consistent with earlier statements of TVK leaders. Before the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the party repeatedly dismissed speculation about joining the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
TVK's Position on Secularism and Social Justice
Aadhav Arjuna also stressed secularism and social justice in the party’s politics during the meeting. He also criticized the DMK for its handling of alliance partners, claiming that smaller parties were very much a part of the alliance's electoral success.
His remarks placed TVK’s rejection of the BJP in the larger context of political cooperation, representation and the role of regional parties in Tamil Nadu.
TVK was established by actor Vijay and was created to form an alternative political party in the state. Since its formation, the party has tried to distinguish itself from other political formations and put its own political identity on the table.
Part of that positioning is rejecting a BJP alliance. The statement alone does not indicate what arrangements TVK will look at in future elections.
Earlier statements also rejected a tie-up with the BJP
The new declaration follows several TVK leaders who denied that they would form an alliance with the BJP.
In March 2026, Aadhav Arjuna said TVK would contest all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu without allying. Vijay had also rejected offers reportedly involving a large number of Assembly seats and a share of the chief ministerial term, he said. At the time, Arjuna did not identify the party that made the offer.
Arjuna also said TVK did not have direct or indirect alliance discussions with the BJP or the AIADMK in April 2026. TVK is a party that aims to build itself independently around the secular and social justice principles, he said.
The latest statement therefore reinforces a position that TVK representatives have been communicating over several months.
TVK Minister Aadhav Arjuna’s insecurity seems to be growing. Now he’s started fearing Dhanush and SK’s possible entry into politics, even though neither of them has confirmed anything. Kadharalz started! 🤣 If TVK ministers focus on doing their jobs instead of poking their noses into others’, why this fear? TVK pudungura aani pooravume thevai illadha aani dhaan! @AadhavArjuna

What the Statement Means for Tamil Nadu Politics?
Alliance decisions can influence electoral strategy, campaign messaging and relationships between political parties. TVK’s decision to oppose a BJP tie-up also underscores its own stated policy position and further raises questions about how it will work with other political parties in the future.
Hence, the party’s relations with secular and regional political organisations such as the IUML are also relevant for understanding the party’s larger political philosophy. The IUML meeting was a meeting of leaders for discussion on secularism, social justice, and partnership of political forces.
At the same time, political developments should also be evaluated by formal announcements and what happens to them, not speculation alone. TVK's future strategy will be better characterized by policy decisions, public statements and electoral cooperation strategy will be seen through TVK if the political situation is well understood, as TVK will make its policy decisions, as it will be.
Aadhav Arjuna's declaration that TVK will never have ties with the BJP reinforces the party's stated political position under Vijay's leadership. His remarks at the IUML youth wing event in Chennai also underline TVK's emphasis on secularism and social justice.
And as alliance speculation remains a major part of Tamil Nadu's political debate at present day, the latest statement is a clear indicator of the position of a senior TVK leader. The party will be able to see how it will make this position part of its overall political strategy in the future and how it will make that position more widely publicised.
