A man in Dharwad caused a commotion when he claimed that his scooter with Rs 2 lakh cash was stolen near Sangam Cinema Theatre. What appeared to be a big theft turned out to be a mistaken identity, and police officers had to deal with an unusual situation.
As per information available, the incident happened near Sangam Cinema Theatre in Dharwad. Bhimappa Jadagannavar (a resident of Govankoppa village in Dharwad district) reportedly withdrew ₹2 lakh from a bank and kept it inside the scooter storage compartment.
After withdrawing the cash, he allegedly parked his scooter in front of a liquor shop and walked away for a while. When he came back, there was no vehicle there, and he knew instantly that someone had stolen it along with the money.
Bhimappa was upset that he had lost so much money and created a scene at the spot. He then called the emergency helpline 112 and reported the theft to the police.
The police were called to the spot by the emergency call. The complainant claimed that his scooter with ₹2 lakh in it had been stolen, and a search operation was conducted in the neighbourhood.
Police Check Multiple Two-Wheelers
When police reached the scene, they started checking nearby two-wheelers to find out where the scooter had gone. They reportedly checked the keys of two or three motorcycles and scooters parked around that area.
During the inspection, officers found that the key matched a white scooter. This led them to suspect that it might be the complainant’s vehicle.
The police opened the scooter’s storage compartment, and there was the missing ₹2 lakh cash. It had not been stolen; it was still in the scooter.
Bhimappa had allegedly forgotten his scooter after parking it near a liquor shop. The incident occurred when he could not identify or locate his own scooter.
Police Resolve the Confusion
Once the scooter and money were recovered by police personnel, confusion was cleared. “They gave him (the money) and let him go after he found the right car,” said one of the officers.
What started as an alleged theft complaint of Rs 2 lakh ended up without any loss of money. It also created unnecessary tension for the police personnel who came to attend the emergency call.
The unusual episode near Sangam Cinema Theatre has caught attention because of the confusion about where the scooter went. It’s a reminder to vehicle owners to remember where they park their two-wheelers (especially in busy areas where several similar vehicles may be parked together).
The incident shows how a moment of confusion can quickly turn into an emergency requiring police intervention.
