TDS Correction Statement Due – March 31, 2026

According to the Income Tax Department, the last deadline for submissions of TDS correction statements for specific financial years is March 31, 2026. Tax deductors are required to make sure they complete and file all necessary corrections before this date. The system will not permit any further corrections for the specified periods once the deadline is past. As a result, it is essential that businesses, organizations, and individuals with a TDS obligation review their filings to ensure errors are rectified promptly.

Financial Years Covered

The deadline is for the following periods:

  • FY 2018–19 – Quarter 4
  • FY 2019–20 to FY 2022–23 — All Quarters
  • FY 2023–24 – Quarter 1 to Quarter 3

Corrections for these financial years shall be filed on or before March 31, 2026. This covers changes regarding deductee information, PAN mistakes, challan data, or other reporting inaccuracies in TDS statements of prior reporting.

Importance of Corrections

Corrections of TDS statements must be made when necessary to ensure proper tax records. Mistakes in TDS returns affect both the tax deductor and the taxpayer. If incorrect information remains uncorrected, deductees may not get the credit of tax deducted as per the Form 26AS or Annual Information Statement. This may lead to complications when filing income tax returns.

Not correcting errors in the due time will pose many potential disadvantages such as loss of TDS credit to the deductees, issuance of “demand notices” by the Income Tax Department, delay in processing income tax refunds, scrutiny, or disputes. Before the deadline is reached, these corrections should be completed to avoid needless compliance issues and to ensure tax reporting is as seamless as possible.

Process to File TDS Corrections

Tax deductors may send correction statements using the TRACES Portal. The general operations at this point take place after downloading the consolidated TDS/TCS file, identifying errors in the old return files, correcting them (if any), and then using the File Validation Utility (FVU) to validate it. The validated correction statement can be uploaded for processing.

Taxpayers and deductors should not delay, check their TDS filings at the earliest, and rectify any remaining matters as soon as possible before the deadline of March 31, 2026, or end up with complications at the last minute.
