Karnataka Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Expected for Five Days as Cyclone Murasu Approaches

Unsettled weather is expected in Karnataka over the next five days as Cyclone Murasu moves towards the Andhra Pradesh coast. IMD has issued rainfall and thunderstorm warnings for several parts of the state. Coastal Karnataka and interior districts will get rain, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are possible in different regions till November 5.

The weather system has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal and is moving towards the south Andhra Pradesh coast. Karnataka is not in the direct path of the cyclone, but it will affect neighbouring states as well, and rainfall is expected in parts of the region.

Yellow Alert for Coastal and Interior Karnataka

As per the IMD forecast issued on November 2, coastal Karnataka will receive heavy rainfall (thunderstorms, lightning and squally weather) on November 3. The warning is for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts.

North Interior Karnataka is also expected to receive heavy rainfall on November 3 and 4. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely to continue in the region through November 5.

South Interior Karnataka too will experience a similar weather pattern with heavy rainfall on November 2 and 3. Thunderstorms and lightning may continue in isolated places on November 4 and 5.

The IMD regional forecast shows that rainfall intensity and weather conditions may vary among districts. Residents should follow district-wise updates (especially where heavy rain/thunderstorms have been forecast).

Bengaluru Weather: Rain and Thunderstorms Expected

Bengaluru too will be facing changes in weather over the next few days. The city may see a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain/thundershowers till November 4.

Temperatures could stay around 20–30 degrees Celsius during this period. Light rain may continue on November 5 and 6 but no weather warning for those days has been given in the city forecast cited above.

People travelling to work, schools and other places should expect intermittent showers. Motorists are warned to drive carefully on wet roads and not travel through waterlogged areas.

Cyclone Murasu to Make Landfall in Andhra Pradesh

Cyclone Murasu has strengthened over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. IMD has said that the severe cyclonic storm will cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur (close to Ongole) around midnight on November 2 or during the early hours of November 3.

The storm is likely to bring sustained wind speeds of 100–110 kmph with gusts up to 120 kmph along the affected coastline. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is also predicted in parts of Andhra Pradesh.

The cyclone will affect weather in neighbouring states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Odisha

Safety Advisory for Karnataka Residents

People living in areas where heavy rain is expected should take basic precautions. Don’t stand under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms; stay away from flooded roads and secure loose objects on balconies and rooftops.

Two-wheeler riders should be extra cautious on slippery roads, and commuters need to allow for extra travel time during heavy rain. Farmers and people working outdoors should watch for lightning warnings and postpone exposed outdoor activities when thunderstorms approach.

The five-day forecast does not mean that every district will have continuous heavy rain. Intensity and timing of showers will vary across Karnataka. Residents should therefore keep checking the latest IMD bulletins and local administration advisories as Cyclone Murasu moves towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.
