Chinese robotics company UBTECH takes humanoid robots outside factories and commercial spaces with its new U1 series, aimed at companionship and human interaction.
Introduced under the consumer-oriented UWORLD brand, the U1 combines an extremely human-like look and artificial intelligence to create personalised interactions.
The U1 series has lifelike synthetic skin, expressive facial expressions and a human-like body. UBTECH says the robots have 88 degrees of freedom which allows them to mimic a wide range of human-like movements.
They can even blink, smile, move their heads and maintain eye contact as they interact more naturally.
One of the key features of the U1 is its emphasis on emotional interaction. According to UBTECH, the robot's emotion-aware AI can recognise more than 20 emotional states and respond according to the context of a conversation.
The memory system is also able to provide the robot with long-term personalised interactions, allowing it to retain information from previous conversations.

The company is positioning the robots for home, office, education, reception areas and elderly care. UBTECH’s robotics portfolio already covers education, commercial services and elderly care, while the U1 is a step towards consumer-facing humanoid technology.
U1 lineup has several versions for different applications and price points. U1 Lite is a semi-torso model, while U1 Pro and U1 Ultra are full-body humanoid robots.
UBTECH has received more than 13,000 orders for the series, which will be delivered in September 2026.
And robots are not primarily meant to replace conventional household appliances or perform every domestic task. The main intent is to interact, be companions and help. This puts the U1 in a different category than industrial humanoids that are mostly developed for manufacturing, logistics or repetitive physical work.
UBTECH’s launch is part of a larger transformation of the robotics industry to embodied AI where robots combine physical movement with perception, language understanding and decision-making.
The company says its broader goal is to get intelligent robots into everyday life: to make their way to the big picture with people and how people-machine interaction in different environments.
The U1 series shows robotics companies are not only going to explore what machines are capable of physically but how they can communicate with people.
