WhatsApp has announced major updates to its Events feature allowing users to plan parties, family gatherings, social meetups and other occasions right from the messaging app.
The new update includes an Events Home of its own, custom invitations, RSVP management and people who don’t have a WhatsApp account can be invited too.
The new features were announced on November 5, 2026 and bring invites and guest management together in one place. WhatsApp users could create events in individual chats and group chats (participants could respond to invitations and notifications came through) but the latest changes make it easier to do that with a wider group of people too.
WhatsApp Events: What's New
One of the biggest additions is the new Events Home section which will be where invitations are created and upcoming gatherings managed .
The section will list past and future events (occasions created by users or invitations they have received), organiser responses to guests, custom reminders sent by organisers without having to search through multiple conversations etc.
Another big addition is the ability to invite people who aren’t registered on WhatsApp. Organisers create an event, upload a cover photo and send an invitation link to guests via other apps. Guests open the link, view the event details and submit their RSVP without downloading WhatsApp or creating an account.
How to Create an Event on WhatsApp
Users can create an event by opening an individual or group chat and clicking the attachment or plus (+) icon. From there they can choose Events, enter name of event, date & time etc.
Organisers can add a description, location and end time. They can add a WhatsApp call link for virtual gatherings and turn on the option that allows guests to bring another person.
Now we can send the invitation to people (going, maybe or not going) once we enter all the details. Guests respond by clicking Going, Maybe or Not Going so organizers know how many are coming and plan accordingly.
With the latest update, users can also add cover photos to invitations and send event links to people outside WhatsApp.
RSVP Tracking and Privacy Features
The Events experience also has new features to help with guest management. Organisers can monitor responses, send custom reminders and guests can bring a plus one. These could be useful when planning birthdays, holidays or larger social events.
WhatsApp also pointed out privacy safeguards for the new invitation system. Phone numbers of organisers won’t be shown to guests they don’t know and people without WhatsApp accounts will only see the event address after submitting their RSVP.
The company has said personal messages and calls will continue to be end-to-end encrypted.
When Will the New WhatsApp Events Feature Land
WhatsApp has said that the new Events experience will be rolled out to users over the next few weeks. Availability may vary during this rollout so some people won’t see the new options immediately.
With these additions, WhatsApp is hoping to make it easier to plan events combine invitations with attendance tracking and reminders in one place.
