So WhatsApp will soon be able to let users with multiple phone numbers to manage their conversations from a single iPhone. The messaging platform is adding a wider range of WhatsApp accounts, i.e. it will allow you to add and switch between as many as three WhatsApp accounts without having to log in to your WhatsApp account.
The new feature comes as WhatsApp introduced support for multiple accounts for iPhone users in 2026 and let you add a second account in the same application. Now, the company is also investigating how to extend the feature to three accounts as it tries to make that possible (it's still under development, so it can take several years before it becomes available to the public).
WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will let iPhone users manage up to three different accounts in the application. Users of WhatsApp, instead of signing out and signing back in to another number to access another number, would be able to switch between the accounts in WhatsApp.
The proposed feature would be especially useful for people who have separate numbers for different purposes. For example, someone might have one account for personal conversations, another for professional communication, and a third for a business or personal number. If you keep the accounts in the same app, switching between them would be much easier.
Importantly, the accounts will have their own personal information to store. Chat histories, notifications, privacy settings, backups, and media would remain associated with their accounts rather than being tied to one another. The separation of conversations would be important if users want to be able to clearly distinguish between personal and professional conversation.
However, the three-account functionality is not available yet even to beta testers, the report says. This suggests that WhatsApp is still working on the feature and could make changes to it before it is ready to be released. With the features discovered during development, however, there are also no guarantees that the three-account feature will be available to all users.
At the same time, WhatsApp has been experimenting with some more features as it continues to expand the capabilities of its messaging service. One of the reported developments is chat customization. The company is currently experimenting with the possibility of having the theme, wallpaper, and even chat bubble colors of a conversation synchronized with the other person, the report said.
If implemented, such a feature would make conversations more consistent for multiple users of a conversation. It would also echo WhatsApp’s growing focus on personalization and let the user have a better sense of how a conversation is going to look.
In addition, another feature that is being investigated could help iPhone users when they want to make calls with people who don't have WhatsApp installed. The company is working on browser-based invitations that could let people without an account on the platform join calls through a web browser. End-to-end encryption could be used, but the feature still remains in WhatsApp's development process.
WhatsApp is also developing native message scheduling. The proposed functionality could allow users to compose a message and select a future date and time for it to be delivered automatically. Such an option could be useful for reminders, professional communication, birthday wishes, and messages that need to be sent at a specific time.
It’s clear that WhatsApp is testing many new ways to better manage account management, customization, calling, and messaging, but because of their testing status, no feature will be available on the whole. WhatsApp frequently experiments with new functionality via development and beta versions before deciding to make it widely available.
For iPhone users, having three WhatsApp accounts from one application might be a very significant extension of the platform's multiple-account feature. When it is available as a whole, it may lend a lot more flexibility to people who rely on separate numbers for work, personal communication, or other business. So far, the three-account feature is still in the research stage, and no firm release date is announced.
