X Launches Cashtag Partner Program, Letting Users Trade Stocks and Crypto Directly from Posts

X, formerly known as Twitter and owned by Elon Musk, has added a feature to connect financial debates with real-world investing with Cashtags. U.S. and international users will be able to easily jump from the world of stock, ETF, and cryptocurrency trading on X to participating trading platforms.

The new feature is based on X's Cashtag feature that allows users to search for financial assets with ticker symbols such as $TSLA for Tesla or $BTC for Bitcoin. Cashtags have provided price information and conversations about specific assets for as long as the company has been around, but in the latest update, it goes further by integrating trading platform partners directly into the experience.

How is the Cashtag Partner Program implemented?

In the new system, users can tap on a Cashtag mentioned in a post or search for a ticker symbol directly on X. This opens a dedicated page where they can see real-time price information, market-related discussions, and asset details.

For the supported assets, users will be presented with a list of participating brokerages and cryptocurrency exchanges and the “Trade” button. Selecting a preferred platform will take them to the broker’s app or website where they can log in or create an account and trade.

Importantly, X does not perform or process any transactions. It is a connecting point between investors and other third-party trading platforms. The trading activity, account verification, eligibility rules, and regulatory compliance of the participating brokers and exchanges are the responsibility of the brokers and exchanges in this case.

Mridul Singhai, Head of Product Engineering at X, said the goal is to simplify the path from discovery of investment opportunity on this platform to action in the future, from finding an investment opportunity to taking action. The company, he said, hopes to engage in financial conversations with users and make them more engaging and actionable.

Five major partners join the Launch

The first rollout consists of five major financial and cryptocurrency platforms:

  • Coinbase
  • Gemini
  • Kraken
  • Interactive Brokers
  • Moomoo

It is each partner has access to various assets and services, when they are local regulations and platform-specific rules.

Kraken: Expanded Asset Access

We have already heard from the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, which is going to be part of the program. When you choose Kraken on a Cashtag page, it will take you to the company's platform where you can get thousands of supported assets and decentralised financial services.

But Kraken said not every Cashtag that is available on X is necessarily a tradable asset on its platform. Availability depends on the geographical location, regulatory requirements, and user eligibility.

Interactive Brokers Offers Incentives

And brokerage giant Interactive Brokers (IBKR) has also joined in. And with the Cashtag integration, US-based investors can review securities and place orders directly after being routed from X.

The company has also announced a promotional offer in which eligible US customers who open and fund a qualifying account through the Cashtag partnership can receive a USD 100 credit, under terms and conditions.

Moomoo and Other Partners Expand Options

The investment platform Moomoo is also a partner in the launch and offers users research tools and stock trading services, which are also supported by Cashtags. Coinbase and Gemini are also part of the first group of partners (as well as in the first group of the cryptocurrency-focused platforms) that make social media discussions and digital asset trading a well-connected entity.

US-Only Rollout for Now

At present, the Cashtag Partner Program is only available to users in the United States. X has not announced a timeline for international expansion, but several partners have indicated that more developments are on the way.

So, the launch is a step in Elon Musk’s broader vision of transforming X into an “everything app” that combines social networking, financial services, payments, and commerce within a single platform.

As online investing communities continue to grow, the new Cashtag Partner Program would make it easier than ever for users to move from market conversations to actual trading activity with a few clicks.
