A shocking incident in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district has come to light where a bus conductor Pravalika died while being treated after she was allegedly pushed off the bus by a woman passenger over change.
The incident took place on a bus which was going towards Bhadrachalam from Manuguru area. Pravalika fell under rear wheels of the bus and sustained severe injuries. She was rushed to hospital with fractures in both legs but later died while undergoing treatment. Police have taken the passenger (in initial info Maunika) into custody and registered a case in this regard.
Maunika, a resident of Mittagudem village in Aswapuram mandal had boarded the bus with her son and was going towards Bhadrachalam. She approached the conductor Pravalika while travelling and handed over ₹100 currency note for buying ticket for her son.
The conductor issued ticket worth ₹10 and wrote rest amount as change on back side of ticket (ticket was not recorded). As Maunika wanted balance money immediately rather than having it written on the ticket she argued with conductor.
The argument reportedly started while the bus was on its way. Maunika allegedly wanted the conductor to return the remaining change at once, an argument ensued and according to the initial report Maunika pushed Pravalika out of the bus.
The conductor lost her balance and fell on the road under the rear wheels of the vehicle. She suffered fractures in both legs. Passengers who saw the confrontation and its tragic consequences were reportedly shocked (sic).
Fellow passengers and local people then rushed to help the injured conductor. Pravalika was taken to a hospital nearby for treatment but since her injuries were severe she died in hospital what started as a fight over a small amount of change has turned into a woman’s death. The circumstances of fall, alleged push and movement of bus are expected to be part of police investigation also.

Police reportedly took Maunika into custody after the incident and filed a case. Investigators are expected to look at statements of passengers, driver and others who were there to find out what happened before Pravalika fell off the bus; sequence of events; where was the bus then; CCTV or other evidence available etc. The legal sections and further developments in the case will depend on the outcome of investigation.
The incident has also been used to highlight the safety of public transport workers (especially conductors who deal with passengers throughout their day). Bus conductors are often the ones who collect tickets, change money, take passenger requests and sort out disputes during journeys.
Disagreements over fares or change can happen but physical confrontation puts passengers and transport staff at risk (especially when a vehicle is moving) so the alleged assault in this case shows how quickly a simple disagreement can turn into life threatening.
Pravalika’s family and colleagues have lost a daughter. What started with a dispute over the balance from a ₹100 note has ended fatally. As police probe continues witness accounts and other evidence will be collected to establish who is responsible for what happened and how the conductor died.
