A 57-year-old woman Anita Dilip Khandelwal was returning home after her morning walk on Tuesday morning when two men on a motorcycle stopped near her. Reportedly, the incident took place on Nov. 3. As she was walking in the neighbourhood they approached her from behind and robbed her.

The suspects stopped the woman on pretext of asking for directions. While talking to her they suddenly pulled the mangalsutra around her neck and forcibly tore it away. They left from there on their motorcycle before she or the passersby could react.

The woman was frightened by the sudden attack. She reportedly suffered minor injuries during struggle when the suspects pulled off jewellery from her neck. Residents of Dena Nagar are worried because it happened in morning hours when people go for walk and other activities every day.

CCTV Footage Captures the Incident

One of the important aspects of this incident is that CCTV cameras installed in the locality apparently recorded the chain-snatching. The footage will throw light on how the suspects approached the woman, robbed her and escaped.

CCTV recordings can be used to identify people committing street crimes. Investigators can look at the footage to determine who the suspects are (appearance, clothing and motorcycle details etc.).

Police went to the spot and questioned the two unidentified suspects. They reportedly also spoke to the injured woman about the accused (their appearance), motorcycle used in the crime.

Residents Raise Concerns Over Women's Safety

The incident has shaken the residents of Dena Nagar locality. The fact that robbery took place in morning hours (people go out for morning walks and routine activities) has raised questions about safety in residential areas where people live.

Chain snatching can happen in seconds so victims have little time to react. Women with gold chains and mangalsutras are easy targets for criminals who ride motorcycles to approach them and then run away.

Residents have complained about such incidents and for stronger police presence in residential areas.

Meanwhile the search for the two unidentified suspects continues and further investigation will be based on CCTV footage and other evidence.

This incident reminds us again how important public safety is and how important it is to take effective measures against street-level robberies. Police investigation will be needed to find the suspects and bring them to justice.
