Police in Surat (Gujarat) have arrested a man for assaulting members of a family over money related to sale of land. The arrest was made after video of the alleged fight went viral on social media and drew public attention.
The accused Paresh Raghani was taken into police custody on November 4 and later brought to Heerabag where the incident took place. He was made to apologise during police action and officers told him about legal consequences of his alleged act.
According to information available, the incident took place on November 1 near Sailal Society in Heerabag area of Surat. It comes under Ashwini Kumar Police Station jurisdiction.
The case came to light after a complaint was filed by Nana Varachha resident Bhavna Raghani in which she alleged that Paresh Raghani (a family member) confronted her when she returned from her sister’s house.
The dispute was said to have started over pending money related to the sale of a piece of land. What began as an argument about the financial matter turned into a violent confrontation allegedly.
Bhavna Raghani alleged that Paresh became aggressive during the argument and physically assaulted her father and sister. Both were said to have been seriously injured in the incident; she also accused him of threatening to kill family members.
The altercation was caught on video and then spread around social media. Once the video went viral the incident became public and the assault came to light.
Caught on camera in Surat. 💔 In Hirabaug’s Santlal Society, a money and rent dispute escalated into a public attack on women. Accused Paresh Radadiya allegedly assaulted an elderly woman and others in front of onlookers. He has now been booked by Ashwanikumar police station. When men start beating women over property or money in broad daylight, it shows how low things can go. No one should get away with this.

Ashwini Kumar Police took cognisance of the viral video and seriousness of allegations against accused and took action against them. Police arrested Paresh Raghani and brought him back to where the confrontation reportedly took place.
At Heerabag police made the accused apologise and told him of legal consequences for such behaviour. The police reconstructed the sequence of events at the spot as part of investigation too.
The police action was intended to establish what happened and prove that complaints about alleged violence and threats would be dealt with through the legal process.
The incident has once again brought to the fore disputes within families over financial transactions and property matters. Disputes over land sales and pending payments sometimes turn into serious confrontations if they are not resolved peacefully.
In this case, the viral footage brought the alleged incident to wider public attention and the complaint was what gave rise to police action.
The investigation is still on. The allegations against Paresh Raghani are before the court and more details about the case will come up as police investigations continue.
