Amit Shah Targets Rahul Gandhi, Says Congress Avoids Parliamentary Discussions

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday 5 November 2026 launched a fresh attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asking him to bring his allegations and political arguments to Parliament rather than take the debate to public platforms. He also said that Congress party keeps disrupting parliamentary proceedings repeatedly and avoids meaningful discussions inside House.

Shah addressing a BJP rally in Karnal, Haryana said Parliament was the right forum for discussions on important national issues. “Rahul Gandhi should face the government in direct parliamentary debate. He will not be able to respond to the arguments of the government,” he said.

Amit Shah Challenges Rahul Gandhi to Parliamentary Debate

Shah addressing the gathering said if his allegations had substance then Rahul Gandhi should take part in a proper discussion inside Parliament.

He said political disagreements should be resolved through parliamentary proceedings rather than street protests and public rallies.

Shah also took a dig at Gandhi: “When the Congress leader is asked to answer the government’s reply during debate he will not be able to cope with it. He will walk away from the discussion”.

The Home Minister’s comments came at a time when the BJP and Congress were locked in political confrontation over allegations of electoral malpractices as well as controversy over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Shah Accuses Congress of Disrupting Parliament

Shah said Congress obstructed parliamentary proceedings repeatedly and used boycotts and disruptions as a political tool.

He asked why the opposition were taking their allegations to public meetings rather than allowing discussions in Parliament.

The Home Minister also said that BJP will respond to Congress politically on all platforms — Parliament, state legislative assemblies, villages and public meetings.

Shah said the Congress party had repeatedly lost elections under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and was trying to remain politically relevant through protests and public campaigns.

These were political allegations made by Shah; Congress party’s position on the dispute is part of wider political debate.

Rahul Gandhi's Open Debate Challenge

Shah’s comments came after Rahul Gandhi challenged PM Narendra Modi to an open debate.

On Wednesday (November 4) Gandhi reportedly said he could establish his allegations against the Prime Minister in five minutes. The Congress leader has repeatedly questioned electoral processes and alleged irregularities in voter lists.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has also demanded answers from the government on allegations of vote theft.

The BJP has, meanwhile, denied the opposition’s allegations and defended the electoral roll revision process.

SIR Controversy Continues to Fuel Political Tensions

The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has become a major bone of contention between ruling BJP and opposition parties.

Congress and other opposition leaders have been critical of voter deletions and transparency in the revision exercise. They have demanded accountability from EC and government.

The BJP has defended the move saying electoral rolls must be updated to remove duplicate, deceased and otherwise ineligible entries.

The disagreement has led to protests, political rallies and repeated meetings between leaders from both sides.

Parliament Remains at the Centre of Political Debate

Shah’s latest comments show the disagreement still exists over where and how political allegations should be discussed.

While Rahul Gandhi has demanded an open public debate with the Prime Minister, Shah said issues should be raised in Parliament.

As long as SIR controversy is in the news, exchange between BJP and Congress will remain an important political issue in days to come.
