Jasmine Gill, a mother of an eight-month-old baby, was going through a divorce and fighting for custody of her child when she was reported missing to the authorities on October 4 by her cousin, who had last seen her four days earlier.
When questioned by law enforcement, her husband, Gurinder Singh Gill, allegedly told investigators that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had taken Jasmine, who was born in India, into custody while she was outside collecting the mail. However, investigators contacted the agency, which confirmed that no enforcement activity had taken place at or near the residence, according to reports citing the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
On October 1, firefighters extinguished a small blaze covering approximately one-tenth of an acre in El Dorado County and discovered what appeared to be human remains. The remains were subsequently identified as Jasmine Gill's. Jewelry found with the burned remains helped investigators establish her identity. Authorities have not publicly established all the circumstances surrounding her death.
On October 14, Gurinder Gill was taken into custody after investigators identified several inconsistencies in his account of Jasmine's disappearance. Law enforcement officials also executed search warrants at two residences associated with him as part of the investigation.
On October 16, reports said Gurinder was facing a murder charge, with prosecutors alleging that he had killed Jasmine on or around September 30, with “malice aforethought.”
Gurinder has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and is being held without bail, according to reports. The allegations against him remain subject to the legal process.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help return Jasmine's remains to her mother in India and support the future of her eight-month-old child. According to reports on the fundraiser, donations had reached approximately $21,000.
The fundraiser describes Jasmine as a devoted daughter, a loving sister, a caring nurse, and a protective mother who wanted to build a better future for her baby. Following in her mother's footsteps, Jasmine pursued a career in nursing and was reportedly working towards a fresh start for herself and her child amid the divorce and custody dispute.
The accusations thrown at ICE, who till now has clearly been seen and recorded on cameras killing at least two American citizens and having countless accusations of inhumane treatment and assault of many people, have suddenly gained a moral high ground for the American right, who absolved them of all their crimes, which they never believed it had even done to begin with. It is important to remember that ICE has torn apart several homes and has allegations of sexual abuse and mistreatment of detainees in their detention centers, and that one misplaced blame doesn't make every other claim invalid.
