Rajasthan Police has launched a new internship programme to give law students the opportunity to get hands-on experience on policing, criminal justice and legal procedures. By doing so, it will connect academic learning to practical work and allow students to work with the State Police’s different branches, units, bureaus, and field formations.
The internship programme was launched Wednesday on orders of Rajasthan Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma. It is for students to understand law enforcement agencies and the criminal justice system in general, and they would need to have a good background in the subject matter, according to the official statement.
Law students pursuing undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) or PhD degrees will be eligible to apply. Students studying in India and abroad who meet the criteria will be eligible. The programme will give students the opportunity to observe and contribute to some of the areas that are closely related to their academic and professional interests.
An interesting aspect of this internship is that the interns will be exposed to different police roles. They will work with the Crime Branch, Traffic Police, Cyber Crime units, Legal Branch, and Modernisation wing, among others. They can also do legal work, data collection, data analysis, and report writing.
It covers forensic science, cyber law, and other policing and criminal justice areas in the course of the programme. This could be particularly useful for law students in litigation, prosecution, judicial services, legal research, public policy, criminal law, or specialised areas such as cybercrime and forensic investigation.
Rajasthan Police Internship Eligibility
As per the police authorities, applicants must have at least 60 per cent marks or an equivalent grade in Class 12 to be considered. The internship is available to eligible law students enrolled in UG, PG, or PhD programmes.
Selection will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis for all those applicants that meet the eligibility criteria. Police authorities have set a maximum of 100 interns for each batch, and if there are more than 100 applicants for the batch, additional applications will not be considered.
The first-come, first-served selection process means early application is very important for students who fit the eligibility criteria and want to participate in the programme. Applicants should therefore be very careful to verify and submit their applications within the prescribed process.
Internship Duration and Payment
The Rajasthan Police internship is unpaid, meaning selected students will not receive a stipend for their participation. The minimum duration of the internship will be 45 days, but it can be extended for up to three months.

The Cyber Crime unit is integral now that digital offences and technology-related investigations are becoming a bigger part of modern policing. Exposure to forensic science can also help students understand how scientific evidence plays a role in criminal investigations.
The Legal Branch may provide interns with opportunities for legal documentation and research, while assignments involving data analysis could introduce students to the increasing role of evidence and information in police decision-making.
