Recruitment details show that the online application window opened on 11 August 2026 and eligible candidates can submit their applications and pay the prescribed fee until 31 August 2026. Those eligible to participate in recruitment should begin registration before the deadline and not after the last day because applications are done in several stages of online submission and fee payment.

The recruitment is for Junior Associate and the vacancies are spread across different States and Union Territories. An important condition is that the candidates can apply for vacancies in only one State or Union Territory. The merit list will also be prepared on a State-wise and category-wise basis. So, applicants should carefully select the State or UT as part of the application form.

SBI Clerk 2026: Important Dates

The online registration was started on August 11, 2026 and the last date to apply and pay application fee was August 31, 2026. The Preliminary Examination is tentatively scheduled for September 2026, and the Main Examination is planned for November 2026.

Candidates who are provisionally selected also need to undergo a Local Language Proficiency Test before joining based on the State or UT chosen in the application. The language test plays an important role in the recruitment process for the candidates who do not meet the exemption criteria.

SBI Clerk 2026 Eligibility

As discussed earlier, all SBI Clerk 2026 applicants must be at least 20-28 years old on April 1, 2026, in terms of age and education if they wish to apply. In other words, each eligible candidate should have been born between 2 April 1998 and 1 April 2006. Age relaxation can be granted to eligible candidates belonging to reserved categories according to the government rules.

In terms of educational qualifications, applicants will have to have a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university or the equivalent recognized by the Central Government. This will make recruitment accessible to graduates from a breadth of academic backgrounds rather than restricting applications to candidates from commerce, banking, or economics streams.

Final-year or final-semester graduation students can also apply provisionally. Those selected through recruitment will, however, need to provide proof of their graduation by December 31, 2026.

Local Language Requirement

The knowledge of the specified local language of the State or Union Territory selected by a candidate is another important eligibility condition. Applicants are expected to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the relevant local language.

Candidates who have studied the specified local language in Class 10 or 12 and can produce the appropriate marksheet or certificate will not be required to take the separate local language proficiency test. Other candidates may have to prove their proficiency after provisional selection and before joining.

The local language requirement is critical because Junior Associates interact directly with customers and handle various banking-related services. Candidates should therefore verify the language requirement for their chosen State or UT before submitting their applications.

SBI Clerk 2026 Selection Process

The selection process consists of an online Preliminary Examination and Main Examination. A local language proficiency test is also applicable where required.

The Preliminary Examination has 100 marks and is meant to shortlist the candidates for the next stage. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not added to the final merit list. The candidates who qualify for the next stage will appear for the Main Examination, which carries 200 marks.

The Main Examination is key in determining the final merit position, once all eligibility criteria are met and the local language requirement is fulfilled.

With thousands of regular vacancies on offer, SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026 will attract a large number of applicants from across the country. Aspirants should read the official recruitment notification, look up the vacancy details for their State or UT, verify eligibility, and apply for an online job before 31 August 2026.

As the Preliminary Examination is tentatively scheduled for September, candidates should begin preparing for the Preliminary and Main examinations simultaneously. Regular practice with reasoning, quantitative aptitude, English language, and other relevant sections, along with mock tests and time-management exercises, can help candidates prepare effectively for the competitive recruitment process.
