Prakash Raj Leads CJP Protest in Kochi Against SIR; ‘Azaadi’ Chant Draws Attention

Actor Prakash Raj joined the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)’s protest in Kochi, Kerala, on Saturday, November 7, when it took up its campaign against Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls outside New Delhi. ‘Jantar Mantar at Kochi’ saw activists and supporters come together to voice concerns about electoral processes and voting rights.

The protest started with a march from Marine Drive and went to Rajendra Maidan, where a public meeting was scheduled. Around 500 activists took part in the rally, reports said. Prakash Raj led the demonstration along with CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and other activists.

CJP Organises Kochi Rally Against Electoral Roll Revision

The main demand of the demonstration was the withdrawal of the SIR exercise. CJP has been questioning the electoral roll revision process and called for accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The organisation has also demanded the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, alleging that the current electoral process is not fair and transparent. These are allegations and demands made by protest organisers, not findings.

National flags were carried by marchers and slogans were shouted at the Chief Election Commissioner during the march. The gathering was part of CJP’s broader campaign to mobilise public support around electoral rights and democratic participation.

Prakash Raj's Participation Attracts Attention

Prakash Raj’s presence at the Kochi demonstration was significant because of his public involvement in social and political issues. The actor had appealed to students, young people, civil society members and representatives of various organisations to participate peacefully before the rally started.

In a video message released ahead of the rally, he called on people to come together and raise their voices for democracy. His appearance put a film star at the centre of CJP’s latest public mobilisation.

Slogans like “Azaadi” have also been mentioned in the claims surrounding the protest, but reports confirming the event in Kochi do not independently confirm that Prakash Raj led or chanted that slogan. What is confirmed is slogans against the Chief Election Commissioner and the SIR exercise.

What Is the Special Intensive Revision?

The Special Intensive Revision is an exercise to check and update electoral rolls. Opposition parties and activists have expressed concern over possible voter exclusions and the protection of eligible voters.

The revision exercise of the Election Commission is meant to update electoral records, but CJP and other opposition leaders have questioned its implementation and demanded safeguards so that eligible people are not left out of voter lists.

CJP Continues Its Protest Campaign

The Kochi rally comes after several demonstrations by the CJP in New Delhi. The organisation had earlier tried to hold protests at Jantar Mantar against the SIR exercise and the Chief Election Commissioner. Some of its members were also arrested in connection with those protests.

The Kochi event was an attempt to take the campaign beyond the elite circles to young people and civil society groups in Kerala. Organisers said the movement would continue until their demands for electoral transparency and an impartial election system were met.

The protest has put electoral roll revision back into the public eye once again. The organisers have made strong allegations against the current process but slogans and individual participants should be assessed separately from confirmed details of the rally itself.
