Truth or Dare: The Balancing Act of Self-Discovery and Human Resilience

We’ve entered the Truth or the Dare. This is a straight-up game, but more importantly it is the mirror image of our deep inside selves that the rest of us now are trying to shine in. It's not always easy for us to ask "truly" the truth. It makes us face how we feel and what we hide. It exposes what we haven't been proud to admit. This is because no matter what all we do to conceal the truth, it inevitably comes to light.

Truth or Dare: The Balancing Act

One day, it is exposed -- and often that is liberating. Recognize wrong, confess an emotion, step up to a fear might be unpleasant, the honest part will set your hands free of the chains you’re keeping from being free. Then there’s dare. There’s something much too many that would embrace, dare, something to test their limits, to challenge their limits; be their true selves in that.

The dare challenges us to take risks on something new, or find a way to make a statement in a challenging way- or challenge a potential challenge that we might not traditionally engage with. And, so to say, every daring, small or big, is a chance to grow stronger, learn more about ourselves.

By telling us to be brave, we learn that truth or dare is a balancing act; it's not a line we can cross without crossing at the same time. When we choose truth, we are encouraged to confront our own inner self with courage but when the courage is done in the form of dare we are taught to be risky and to be acted upon. They are a motivating force for self-discovery and resilience.

So in a game, a conversation or in life’s random surprises — will you choose truth and be honest, or will you dare and be brave and embrace the unknown? Since both are development, discovery and freedom. So the next time your life has you pondering on this, next time life even raises a question for you, or a challenge, try to answer that question — would you choose the truth, or be daring to?
