The passenger’s account went viral after a video was shared on social media where she described what happened and how distressed she was by it. She said she was travelling with her young child and was particularly worried about the safety of her family during the journey.

The train was the Anand Vihar Terminal-New Jalpaiguri Express. The woman said an unidentified person entered the First AC compartment and took her valuables without her noticing.

Woman Alleges Jewellery and Cash Were Stolen

In the viral video passenger said that jewellery worth around ₹2.5 lakh and ₹25,000 cash was stolen from her First AC coupe.

She wondered how someone could enter the compartment and steal valuables on the way. It also made her nervous about travelling in premium coaches as well.

The woman said she was relieved that her child wasn’t hurt but frustrated about the alleged security lapse.

We have not independently established how the unidentified person entered the compartment in the theft.

Passenger Claims No Help Despite Four Emergency Chain Pulls

One of the main issues raised by the woman was that there was no assistance after she tried to alert railway staff.

She said she pulled the emergency chain four times but no one from the RPF or other railway staff helped her.

She also asked why no security personnel or onboard staff responded to her requests for help.

The allegation has also generated discussion about emergency response arrangements at railway stations and whether security personnel are available on long-distance trains.

But the passenger’s account of what happened hasn’t yet been independently verified by an official investigation report.

Lucknow Railway Police Respond to Viral Video

After the video went viral on social media, the Lucknow GRP responded to the complaint.

The police account reportedly said that the matter had been forwarded for action. Passenger was also asked to share her contact details or approach helpline for further assistance.

The response came after social media users asked how such an incident could take place in a First AC compartment.

As of November 4, no official findings had been made public that established the circumstances of the alleged theft.

Incident Raises Questions About First AC Passenger Security

First AC coaches have more privacy and relatively little passenger movement than other train classes but premium accommodation does not exclude theft or unauthorised access.

The incident has brought security arrangements inside railway coaches to the fore again (especially at station halts when passengers and railway staff may be moving through different compartments).

It has also raised questions about coordination between onboard railway staff, RPF and Government Railway Police when passengers report a security emergency.

The allegations about the response to emergency chain pulls need to be looked into by the railway authorities concerned.

What Should Passengers Do If Theft Occurs On A Train Journey?

If passengers find that their belongings have been stolen on a train they should report it immediately through the official railway security channels.

They can contact railway security helpline at 139, approach RPF or GRP and give details like train number, coach, berth and location where incident may have taken place.

Passengers should also keep any ticket details, photographs and any information about suspicious activity available.

The Lucknow incident has again made passenger security a focus. The investigation and whatever official findings come out of it will be important to find out what happened inside the First AC coupe and whether the response to woman’s request for help was done in accordance with procedures.
