Rahul Gandhi was travelling to Sultanpur Court.
Gandhi was travelling to Sultanpur to appear before a special MP-MLA court in connection with a defamation case involving alleged remarks about Amit Shah, who was the BJP's national president at the time.
The complaint dates back to 2018. BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed it over the alleged remarks Gandhi made about Shah during a political campaign in Bengaluru ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections.
The court had scheduled proceedings for October 26, 2026, so Gandhi's physical presence was to be exercised for the day's hearing and expected verdict.
Gandhi arrived at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport earlier in the morning before starting his road journey to Sultanpur. Congress workers and local party leaders were gathered at the airport to welcome him.
