Popular multilingual actor Kishore has stirred political debate on social media after indirectly criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent appeal asking citizens to reduce fuel consumption, avoid unnecessary spending on imported products and adopt electric vehicles.

The controversy erupted after PM Modi, during a public address, urged citizens to consume less fuel, support electric mobility and reduce dependence on foreign goods in light of global economic instability and rising geopolitical tensions. The Prime Minister also reiterated his “Vocal for Local” message, encouraging Indians to support domestically produced products and reduce imports.

Speaking about the current international situation, Modi reportedly said that the world has been facing continuous instability over the past few years and that the ongoing West Asia conflict has become one of the biggest global crises of the decade. He stressed that India must become more self-reliant and economically resilient during uncertain times.

However, actor Kishore reacted sharply to these remarks through a Facebook post that quickly went viral.

Kishore’s Viral Facebook Post

In his strongly worded post, Kishore questioned what he described as hypocrisy in political messaging. Without directly naming the Prime Minister initially, the actor criticized leaders who ask citizens to save fuel and spend less while themselves participating in large political roadshows involving massive vehicle convoys.

Kishore wrote:

“Who is the biggest fool here? The one who asks people to save fuel, spend less and calls it patriotism, and the very next day participates in roadshows with huge convoys of vehicles? Or the people who believe him, vote for him and keep him in power?”

The actor also referred to election rallies conducted during recent months and questioned whether political leaders themselves follow the principles they ask citizens to adopt.

His remarks immediately triggered intense reactions online, with supporters and critics engaging in heated debate across social media platforms.

Social Media Divided Over Kishore’s Remarks

Many users supported Kishore’s comments, saying public figures and politicians must lead by example if they ask citizens to reduce fuel usage and adopt environmentally conscious practices.

Some social media users argued that large-scale political roadshows and rallies involving long vehicle processions contradict public appeals for fuel conservation and sustainability.

At the same time, supporters of PM Modi criticized Kishore’s remarks, accusing the actor of politicizing an important national issue related to energy conservation and economic self-reliance.

Several BJP supporters defended the Prime Minister’s statements, arguing that reducing fuel imports and promoting electric vehicles are long-term national goals aimed at strengthening India’s economy and reducing dependence on global oil markets.

Modi’s Appeal For Economic Self-Reliance

Prime Minister Modi’s recent statements come amid rising global uncertainty caused by geopolitical conflicts, fluctuating crude oil prices and concerns over economic disruptions worldwide.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to:

  • Use less fuel
  • Prefer electric vehicles
  • Support local products
  • Reduce unnecessary imports
  • Strengthen India’s self-reliance

The “Vocal for Local” campaign has remained one of the key themes of the Modi government’s economic messaging in recent years.

Debate Over Public Messaging And Political Optics

The controversy has once again highlighted how statements by political leaders and celebrity reactions can rapidly shape public discourse online.

Political analysts believe Kishore’s remarks reflect growing public scrutiny over political optics, environmental messaging and lifestyle contradictions among public leaders.

Meanwhile, the debate continues to trend on social media, with both supporters and critics sharing contrasting views on patriotism, sustainability and political accountability.
