Dhurandhar 2 Controversy: BMC Blacklists Ranveer Singh’s Production House

The anticipation about Ranveer Singh’s long awaited sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has recently been rocked by some controversy. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced an unprecedented move in blacklisting B62 Studios, the production banner directed by filmmaker Aditya Dhar, over a series of blatant and numerous safety violations carried out at the film’s last Mumbai schedule.

The Source of the Conflict

The dispute broke out in the latter stages of the South Mumbai filming on A Ward. The producers were granted conditional permission to proceed to shoot on February 7 and 8, BMC officials said. But the authorities quickly discovered a number of violations of protocol:

  • Fire Risks: Even though no fire and flammable materials were supposed to be used, the crew was said to allegedly have been identified using lit torches (Mashals) and firecrackers during the latter part of the night.
  • Unauthorized Locations: The BMC alleged the team had filmed on a building terrace and appropriated public spaces without obtaining the secondary clearances required.
  • Equipment Violations: Two generator vans reportedly were run without the necessary approvals, giving local residents in the Fort area noise and safety problem complaints.

Blacklisting and Penalties

The proposal to permanently prohibit B62 Studios including individual applicants Komal Pokhriyal and Nasir Khan from applying for future filming permission from the state official portal is cleared by the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) of Zone.

In addition to the blacklisting, the civic body has:

  • Imposed a monetary fine of ₹1 lakh.
  • Forfeited a ₹25,000 security deposit of the production house.
  • In the early hours of Feb. 14, five lit torches discovered on the set were formally seized following a surprise inspection.

The Production House reply

The production team reportedly assured officials that any fire visuals remaining will be done by VFX, but the BMC decided to go ahead with stringent action due to the "repeated nature" of the violations. A senior official explained that the team had received a warning in response to the first, Feb. 8, incident, but that rules were violated again during the February 14 night shoot.

Impact on Release Date

With the studio getting banned and still facing a legal battle about the film’s slate, Jio Studios (presenter of the film) has confirmed that theatrical release remains on schedule. Dhurandhar: The Revenge has been locked for the pan-India release on March 19, 2026, for a huge box-office showdown with Yash’s Toxic. However, though the film’s content remains untouched, they are not allowing B62 Studios to bring their future projects in Mumbai to life after being blacklisted, as it would be a huge problem for them to get access to Mumbai's single-window approvals process for future projects.
