While most big movies begin the advance ticket sales just two or three days before a show, the third Dune movie has broken all industry norms. And although the film, entitled Dune: Part Three (adapted from Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah), will be released on December 18, 2026, tickets are already coming out and they’re on the secondary market for astronomical prices.
There’s some news that 70mm IMAX theaters in North America and London are starting to offer limited “early-bird” bookings. At 15 minutes, all those seats for the opening weekend sold out. The scarcity has led fans to private auction sites such as eBay, where a single ticket recently fetched a staggering $999 (around ₹83,000 to ₹90,000). For the series, this is a record value and a great deal of attention for the brand and its “technical prestige” with director Denis Villeneuve.
The Star-Studded Conclusion
The third film is the epic conclusion to the trilogy, set 12 years after the second part. The cast includes our greatest stars, Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani. Jason Momoa will also be back in the franchise, alongside Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, and the new guy in the series, Robert Pattinson, who will play him.
The series is known for its “Filmed for IMAX” cinematography and has made its theatrical release a mandatory “event” for cinephiles. The demand for the 70mm format the best visual quality available is the primary driver behind the current ticket-resale madness.
- The Indian Connection: Tabu and ‘Kalki’. The Dune universe has received a huge boost in popularity in the Indian market and is fueled by two big reasons:
- Tabu in ‘Dune: Prophecy’: The franchise has been taken to streaming with the Dune: Prophecy series starring the Indian powerhouse actress Tabu as Sister Francesca. She has brought in a new generation of Indian fans to the Atreides story.
- The ‘Kalki’ comparison: The Indian sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD has drawn a lot of stylistic comparisons to Dune due to its desert look and bold world-building. This has led to an interest from the Indian audience in the Hollywood drama as they are looking forward to the end of the Hollywood story.
Release Outlook
With the film going to be released worldwide on December 18, 2026, Warner Bros. is positioning it as the definitive holiday event. And while the sell-outs are down to a fraction of total screenings, the high-value resale market indicates that Dune: Part Three is on track to be one of the biggest-grossing sci-fi movies of the decade.
