Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film is Jana Nayagan and has not yet received a censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Filmmakers have already filed a petition at Madras High Court requesting for the same, as the film is to open in theatres on January 9, 2026.
In its fight against CBFC, Jana Nayagan now is certified by the censor board but not Indian itself. The United Kingdom’s censor board has given the starrer Vijay a censor certificate before its official release. It should be noted, however, that the UK censor board has released a 15-rated certificate for Jana Nayagan.
Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Gets Clearance from UK Censor Board
Jana Nayagan is given a ‘15’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). Thalapathy Vijay’s next is only suitable for those aged 15 and over, according to the UK censor board. No one younger than that is allowed to watch it in the movies or rent/buy it. The BBFC gave the film ‘15’, mainly because it has strong language, frequent violent scenes, sexual activity and drug misuse.
After the certification, the Jana Nayagan production company obtained permits for the film to be published in the UK. Madras High Court adjourned the hearing to January 7, which was held as a result of the makers' tussle with CBFC over delays in giving out the censor certificate. The Jana Nayagan producers cited a delay that was unnecessary, which could negatively impact the film’s commercial prospects, during the hearing.
Yet the CBFC said further, saying the makers were not able to get certification in time, with Additional Solicitor General Sundaresan. They said the makers had announced the release date for Jana Nayagan ahead of the certification process coming to a close. Therefore, the high court mandated the CBFC to file relevant documents to the re-examination committee and adjourned the matter to the following day till 2:15 pm. Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi’s producers have likewise been waiting for approval from CBFC. The film is due to be released on January 10. Returning to Jana Nayagan, the Thalapathy Vijay starrer here also includes the crucial roles of Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde and others.
