Fans of the globally acclaimed film franchise, Kantara, have cause for celebration. Director and actor Rishab Shetty has announced that the divine green light has been given for 'Kantara: Chapter 3' during a sacred Harake Nemotsava ritual in the coastal region of Karnataka.
The announcement was made following the traditional Nemotsava, a ritual dedicated to the local deities (Daivas). In these ceremonies, the Daiva is believed to speak through an oracle, confirming or denying intentions.
Divine Confirmation for the Prequel
Rishab Shetty, who helms the project and also plays the lead role, had publicly stated his intention to begin work on 'Kantara: Chapter 3'—which is expected to be a prequel to the original film—following the successful completion of the Nemotsava.
"We sought the divine guidance of the Daiva regarding our plans for Kantara: Chapter 3. The deity has given us the 'green signal' and His blessing to proceed with the next chapter," said a source close to the film's production house, Hombale Films.
The Kantara franchise, which delves deep into the culture, traditions, and spirit worship (Bhoota Kola/Daivaradhane) of Tulunadu, relies heavily on the consent and blessing of these local deities before major steps are taken. The successful Nemotsava confirms that the creative team can now officially move forward with the script development and pre-production work for the eagerly awaited third installment.
What to Expect
While Kantara (2022) explored the bond between the forest and the community, and Kantara: Chapter 2 (the announced sequel) is set to expand the story, Chapter 3 is widely anticipated to delve into the ancient origins of the Daiva, setting the stage for the conflict seen in the first film.
