So much talk about a potential sequel to the horror comedy hit Munjya has been going on for a while with director Aditya Sarpotdar finally answering the question: “There is talk about Munjya 2.” Sarpotdar told us that there is a process for Munjya 2 but the project is still in the first stages.
The original Munjya, released in 2024, was a surprise box office hit of folklore mixed with quirky humor and supernatural thrills. Its unique storytelling and memorable characters quickly caught the imagination of the audience; fans pushed for a revival of the story. The mystery behind whether the mischievous spirit will return—and entertain—the big screen is something that we are all curious about now.
Sarpotdar said the team is working on ideas for a sequel but that in this case the goal is that the story is fresh and not just a rehash of the first film. The folklore world in Munjya has a lot of room to grow and new characters and supernatural elements could be incorporated into the narrative he said.
The industry believes a sequel will delve further into the Munjya spirit’s origins and add in new mythological details. Details about casting are not disclosed yet, but since the success of the first film is there, the sequel should have a strong ensemble to match its predecessor.
It would be tough to live up to people’s expectations, he said, and to not try to rush into it just because it was so great the first movie did. The sequel has to stand on its own and deliver something bigger,” he said.
If people are really excited again, Munjya 2 is the only thing that can make them happy. There are already theories and wish lists on social media that are already being done and many hope for a darker but equally entertaining story.
Munjya 2 has not been officially announced yet, but Aditya Sarpotdar’s reveal is a good indication that we are heading toward another movie. Now that Aditya Sarpotdar is working on a good continuation, it is very likely to be a spooky, funny ride but patience will have to be kept until the project is truly developed.
