Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi opened with great expectations and went out and got one of the best starts for a Telugu movie of this year. The movie crossed ₹100 crore on its opening day and still went on to dominate the box office through its first weekend. The box office is slow on weekdays, to be sure, but still among the highest-grossing Indian movies in 2026.

According to trade estimates, Peddi collected around ₹6.30 crore net in India on Day 8. The film's total India net collection is around ₹193.55 crore, and the domestic gross is nearly ₹230 crore. The worldwide earnings have crossed ₹345 crore now and are expected to exceed ₹350 crore soon if the current momentum continues.

Ram Charan plays the main character in the film, and Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu Sharma, and Boman Irani are the actors. It’s a story of an unsung athlete’s fight for respect, dignity and social justice in rural Andhra Pradesh.

The film has been very successful commercially, but most of the online discussion has been about Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyamma. A lot of viewers felt the character was portrayed incorrectly, and there was a lot of discourse on social media. When Buchi Babu Sana noticed the critical response and said that the audience misinterpreted some of the character’s story, he said he was sorry and would do better.

Janhvi Kapoor’s role in the film was also criticised by the backlash. But veteran actor Jagapathi Babu defended her, saying it was the actors who should not be blamed for the creative decisions made in the movie and that criticism should be given to the film, not to the actors.

Because of the controversy, Peddi still resonates well with fans in Telugu-speaking areas where occupancy is fairly good. And the film’s strong opening week should give it a strong base to survive negative publicity and drop-off in the day-to-day business.

Ram Charan will also be a huge commercial hit and might become one of the best solo movies of his career. The big action sequences, emotional storytelling and strong fan support keep interest in the movie even as more recent productions come into cinemas.

With the second weekend now going on, industry observers will be watching if Peddi can continue to make a little money and cross the ₹350 crore mark worldwide. If word of mouth continues to grow and weekend collections continue to rise, this film could be on its way to a lot more box office milestones as well.
