The superstar has publicly disclosed that he never leaves his residence without chanting the Gayatri Mantra—a practice he now performs 100 times daily.

The Power of the Gayatri Mantra

The Gayatri Mantra (Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha, Tat Savitur Varenyam, Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi, Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat) is one of the most revered and potent mantras in Vedic tradition.

  • Meaning: It is a prayer to the Divine Light (Savitr) for wisdom, intelligence, and enlightenment. It is often translated as: "We meditate upon the glorious splendor of the Divine Light (Sun, God). May that Divine Light enlighten our minds and guide our intellect."
  • Significance: Chanting this mantra is believed to enhance intellectual capacity, purify the mind, remove obstacles, and grant divine guidance and protection—attributes that the superstar himself values deeply.

The Origin of the Practice

Rajinikanth once shared the moving story behind his rigorous commitment to the Gayatri Mantra at a public event. He revealed that he was inspired by his spiritual guru, Sathya Sai Baba, a staunch devotee of the mantra.

The actor recounted an incident where Sathya Sai Baba spoke about a tragic flight accident, remarking that if just one person on that plane had been chanting the Gayatri Mantra, the disaster might have been averted.

This profound statement deeply impacted Rajinikanth, who initially began chanting the mantra once a day. Over time, his devotion and discipline increased:

"First, I used to chant the Gayatri Mantra once a day. Then three times, then nine times, then 24 times. Now, I do not step out of my house without completing the chant 100 times."

Spirituality Beyond Stardom

Rajinikanth's daily ritual is a reflection of his enduring faith and his belief in the power of spiritual hygiene. His life is also heavily influenced by:

  • Mahavatar Babaji and Kriya Yoga: Rajinikanth is a devoted follower of Mahavatar Babaji, whose teachings on Kriya Yoga are detailed in the book Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda. He often credits the practice of Kriya Yoga for the positive vibes and peace in his life.
  • Himalayan Retreats: The actor frequently undertakes solitary spiritual retreats in the Himalayas, visiting sacred sites like Rishikesh, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, seeking tranquility away from the pressures of the film industry.
  • For Rajinikanth, the simple yet powerful Gayatri Mantra acts as a daily spiritual shield, grounding the global superstar and preparing him for the demands of the world.
