The actor arrived at Mumbai airport just recently in traditional ethnic attire (Pathani kurta and Nehru jacket). And his fans noticed it, and the public scrutiny grew. But then images of Ranveer Singh praying at the celebrated Chamundeshwari Temple proliferated on social media.

Based in the lavish Chamundi Hills, Mysuru, a Hindu temple ranks among the principal spiritual and cultural precincts of Karnataka and thousands of devotees enter the temple every year. It was Ranveer’s visit that went viral online as many wondered how the pilgrimage was connected to the spiritual aspect of the well-loved Kantara series.

But the news of this visit appears to have emerged from a legal showdown, and rather than some movie gossip, this has been linked to legal trouble. According to the Kantara mimicry case, in April, when actor Ranveer Singh issued a modified affidavit and unconditional apology, the Karnataka High Court advised him to pray at the temple.

The court said it had decided that the matter was probably settled and had directed the actor to arrive at the temple within four weeks, it reported. His latest trip seems to have followed that rule. According to reports, M. J. Roopa and Ranveer Singh arrived at the temple at 7:30 am, and gave prayers at the temple for close to 10 minutes during the peak time.

Sources in the temple say the actor would come quietly, as per usual, as a follower, but after the staff would spot him and greet him with a garland. The temple visit came as the actor’s career entered a turbulent period and when reports of his alleged exit from Don 3 were harassed by entertainment outlets.

Issues did not ease when the Federation of Western India Cine Employees said it would not cooperate with Ranveer Singh at all, especially after he suddenly left the project, and its large membership said it didn’t want to cooperate with him. Producer Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, when the dispute escalated, also reported to the Indian Film and Television Directors' Association, and producers also filed a complaint with FWICE.

Ranveer Singh does not permit controversy to erupt, nor has he commented on the debate that has arisen, be it on the internet or in the film industry. Ranveer is still high on everyone who has helped invest in the Don franchise with this deep respect and goodwill, and by extension, he would like everyone to keep being successful players in team players, according to a spokesperson for the actor.

The actor has to be cautious, if only to keep it under control with the current issues, the statement added. Don 3, Kantara mimicry and future projects are on display, but there’s an extra thread of the public narrative that surrounds the actor in Ranveer Singh’s mission to the temples in Mysuru.
