In a bid to protect leading figures in the entertainment industry, Mumbai Crime Branch has intensified the investigation into the threats made on Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh. Today, the police issued an LOC on Harichandra, popularly called as Harry Boxer, one of Lawrence Bishnoi gang's notorious operatives. The move follows a troubling demand for extortion and a chilling death threat that was presented to the actor’s management earlier this month.
The Extortion Plot: A ₹20 Crore Ultimatum
Ranveer Singh’s manager Vijay Subramanian received a series of threatening WhatsApp voice notes from an international number (reportedly from the United States or Virgin Islands), accelerating the investigation. The sender claimed to be Harry Boxer, and demanded ₹20 crore as protection money.
Boxer supposedly spoke in threatening tones, stating in voice notes that unless the demands were met, “the next seven generations” would recall what had happened. He further took responsibility for recent firing incidents abroad, including a shooting in Portugal, as a sign of the gang’s dangerous reach.
The Connection with Rohit Shetty
The police say this threat is a part of a larger intimidation campaign aimed at the “Singham” universe. The timing of the message is especially striking, in the wake of a firing that took place outside the filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu on February 1. Boxer reportedly cited both the filmmaker and actor, warning them in the audio clips to "fall in line."
The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) has since invoked sections of the MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) as they explore the relationship between the shooting at Juhu and the threats to Singh.
Case Cracked: Voice Verification & International Coordination
The LOC is issued in response to a technological innovation. The voice recordings were sent to specialized agencies in Punjab and Haryana by the Mumbai Police for forensic verification. When the authorities established that the voice was the voice of Harry Boxer a Rajasthan resident who was said to be hiding in Canada an FIR was formally registered by the South Region Cyber Cell.
Mumbai Police have contacted other U.S. authorities to search the digital trail containing the VPN-masked American number that had been utilized for sending the WhatsApp messages.
More Security for the Megastar
In light of the growing threats, security at Ranveer Singh's residence has been greatly fortified with armed guards. Dhurandhar (2025) and its sequel, which hit theaters on March 19 and is also gaining buzz in the media, has been an inspiration to the actor to be highly circumspect as he comes forward for public appearances and film shoots. The Mumbai Crime Branch has told the film fraternity that they are dedicated to dismantling the “transnational ecosystem” that permits these gangs to function on foreign soil.
