In a major change for the summer box office, the epic rivalry between Yash's pan-India epic 'Toxic' and Varun Dhawan's romantic comedy 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' has been avoided. Tips Films, the creators of the Varun Dhawan-starring movie, announced today that they are moving the release date from June 5 to June 12, 2026, to allow for a healthy theatrical schedule for both films.
The "Toxic" Transition That Prompted the Shift
The scheduling conflict emerged last week as the creators of Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups delayed a three-month deadline. The Yash-starrer was originally planned for March 19 but was instead pushed to June 4, 2026, due to a geopolitical crisis affecting West Asia that caused the film to lose distribution in key markets such as the UAE and Gulf states more broadly.
With Toxic dominating the first weekend of June, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which had prepared for June 5, suddenly faced one of the most highly anticipated action movies of the decade.
A Decision Born of Solidarity
The filmmakers for the David Dhawan direction made an official statement on Instagram: We considered the health of the industry more generally. "We firmly believe that it is always healthier for the industry when filmmakers look out for one another rather than competing for the same date for any extra competition. "With such solidarity in mind, we have decided to move the release of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai to June 12 and bring our film to the audiences a week later," it reads.
The Two Film Exhibitors’ Choices Of What to Expect From The Two Blockbusters
The two films offer very different cinematic experiences, thus creating an even more rational case for exhibitors to separate the two: Toxic (June 4), a hyper-violent action drama from director Geetu Mohandas on the scale of the blockbuster genre action drama set for June 4, 2026.
Hosted by Yash and featuring a cast of characters such as Nayanthara and Kiara Advani, the film is positioned internationally as a filmmaking event. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai (June 12): The family-friendly romantic comedy helmed by veteran David Dhawan. Starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde, the film promises to hit us like 90s nostalgia with a modern twist.
The Adjusted June Calendar
Moving to June 12 means that Varun Dhawan’s film gets to escape the Toxic wave but also separates itself from the March 19 production of Dhurandhar 2, a solo effort by Ranveer Singh after Yash postponed release. The industry has a year filled with international strife and changing release windows, and theater owners are refreshingly pleased to see a "clash-averted" announcement which bodes well for big ticket release numbers all over the summer.
