Vaazha 2: Biopic of a Billion Bros is a phenomenal box office hit, and Malayalam cinema also garnered more than ₹200 crore worldwide. Originating from a campaign of creative, curiosity-based content creators collaborating to create content, it has since turned into a phenomenal box-office hit among the best-selling movies ever made in Malayalam cinema. Thanks to popular artists Hashir, Vinayak, Alan, and Ajin, Vaazha 2 also enjoys huge viewing power, especially with regard to the younger generation as it is widely embraced. One of the biggest box office winners in Indian film is Vaazha 2, which is considered one of the top films of Malayalam cinema.
The film was finally confirmed on the movie’s huge hitlist by the directors of the film when it was released and soon ended up at the top of the country, fetching ₹200 crore. And now it joins the list of big-screen blockbusters such as Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, L2: Empuraan, Manjummel Boys and Thudarum. But there may be a long way there before it.
Competition will be a little sparse for the next couple of weeks, and the public, but this movie is likely to break Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, directed by Dominic Arun and starring Kalyani Priyadarshan.
This sequel is also by Vipin Das, directed by Savin SA. The story's emotions, comic-to-serious themes, and emotional layers of the story are no different from the first one, as that first did as can be seen from the movie there are no signs through this one that anyone is losing out and never will be. At heart, the film is about identity versus society and teenagers deciding their place in this world.
These are stories about coming of age, perfectly blended in with the telling of digital storytelling: it's fresh and relatable. The casting at the moment is one of the movie’s major assets. Filmmakers have reached out to a mass audience, of whom we’re talking about, that now has a lot (but are not a bit) of their own lives and represented them on film, using real social media personalities, real people (in real life), and stars. Not only is this a gimmick it's a box office success; damn well, a legit one! And now, with hits like Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam, Pallichattambi starring Tovino Thomas and Oru Durooha Saahacharyathil with Kunchacko Boban, Vaazha 2 is still coming to cinema. And audiences are drawn to word-of-mouth excitement and return business.
The cast also has strong actors Biju Kuttan, Vijay Babu, Alphonse Puthren, Aju Varghese, Ameen and Angel Maria - and that helps to deliver some strong performances by all the ensemble members. And I think that’s probably one of the coolest things about Vaazha 2: in a way, this is a tie-up of internet fame and old-fashioned cinema and whatever else there might be. The cultural buzz around the movie has only been stoked with the release of a new, unreleased behind-the-scenes video, detailing Hashir’s prognostication of his legacy on Malayalam cinema.
But as Vaazha 2 picks up steam, the industry is trying to figure out if it can even record a few movies by now. Yes, it may be very true — but of course, the film has already changed the game for success; it is if you will the only film that has shown me and you me that we have the ability to shape the future of Malayalam cinema for the better through new voices and alternative formats of the narrative.
