Gor said he had recently met the U.S. President in the Oval Office, where India was among the topics discussed. Although no formal dates are set up yet, Trump's interest remains strong in visiting India, he said.

One of the things the President asked about is, 'So when am I coming?' He's very keen to come. The Prime Minister has invited him, and so I think that will happen at some point," Gor said.

The remarks come at a time when India and the United States are expanding cooperation in trade, defence, technology, and strategic partnerships.

'Trump and Modi Are Great Friends'

Sergio Gor also spoke to the strong bilateral ties, with Trump’s personal relationship with Narendra Modi as one of the strongest pillars of India-US relations.

I think we're in a great place, Gor said, adding that the two leaders have maintained the friendship over the years even given the speculation in the media.

"Sometimes the media likes to portray it as if some kind of event did or did not happen, but the President and the Prime Minister are great friends. That friendship extends back years and will last so long. Great things are achieved when the two talk to each other every single time they speak."

The ambassador also said one of his top priorities in India since coming to India has been to keep the countries to work on the constant engagement of both the government and identify opportunities for both nations.

Gor said regular dialogue has helped to keep momentum going on one of the world’s most important strategic partnerships.

Trump Holds India in 'Highest Regard'

Gor: With respect to Trump’s views on India, the U.S. President has always spoken warmly about the country and continues to hold Prime Minister Modi in high esteem.

Gor said Trump spoke positively about India during their meeting in France and often reflects on his previous visit to the country.

The President is very warm to India. He holds the Prime Minister and India in the highest regard. He always talks about the Prime Minister as a friend of his and often reminds me of his first trip to India and the vibrancy there. It is something that he has never forgotten.

The ambassador also praised the leadership style of Prime Minister Modi for being “incredibly dynamic, incredibly hands-on, and results-driven.”

In contrast to the two leaders, Gor said Modi and Trump share a similar approach to governance and they all have good governance with a focus on quick decision making and working together to get things done and results.

While the itinerary for Trump’s visit is not available, the ambassador’s remarks suggest preparations for a future visit may take place in the coming months. If the visit actually happens, it will further strengthen the diplomatic, economic and strategic ties between India and the United States.
