Indian-Origin Woman Killed in Toronto Shooting; Suspect Faces Murder Charge

The town of Toronto, Canada, just lost a woman from India Navneet Kaur (26), originally from Punjab, India, was shot dead in a targeted attack near Humberwood Blvd & Rexdale Blvd in Etobicoke, Toronto who came to Canada for her studies.

According to Toronto Police, officers were on the scene to respond to reports of gunfire and found the woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel tried to save her life but she died at the scene and was pronounced dead shortly after.

Information about the victim's family is not yet forthcoming due to pending legal proceedings, officials said.

Police quickly got involved, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. The police were able to bring in a man on the scene and since then they have formally charged him with murder. Investigation into the motive of the shooting is ongoing and the victim and the accused had a prior relationship, too.

The police urged anyone with information, surveillance footage and even eyewitness accounts to come forward to assist with the investigation. Detectives are reviewing nearby security camera footage and other evidence to determine a complete timeline of events.

The incident has significantly affected Toronto's Indian community, and many are grieving and crying out for justice. Community leaders have offered condolences to the victim’s family and stressed the need for more aggressive action to reduce violent crime and to protect public safety.
